Job Summary: The Manager Surgical Services is responsible and accountable for assisting the Director with coordinating and directing day-to-day activities in the OR to insure adequate staffing and the delivery of quality cost-effective care. The Manager can fulfill the RN job requirements for home unit(s) as well as serve as a clinical resource person and a role model for staff members. He/She continually assesses staff educational needs and identifies areas for improvement.



Responsibilities

Job Responsibility

  1. Technical Tasks
    1. Plans and arranges for department unit meetings.
    2. Responsible for patient rounds.
    3. Responsible for timely and complete documentation relating to personnel files.
  2. Critical Thinking
    1. Directs staff in the daily operations of the area including problem identification planning implementation patient safety and evaluation of patient outcomes.
    2. Facilitates daily Care Coordination Rounds and ensures development of Plan of Care that meets individualized needs of patients.
    3. Interviews hires evaluates councils and disciplines personnel assigned to the unit and/or department.
    4. Identifies and maintains the number and level of personnel needed to provide quality patient care by determining activity/guidelines for the unit and/or department.
    5. Examines the delivery of patient care and identifies problems and any need for improvements including patient safety.
    6. Participates in the budgetary process by monitoring the expenditures and revenue of the unit.
    7. Oversees the orientation of new employees and provides assistance with development of competencies specific to the unit and/or department.
    8. Responsible for department/unit meeting the requirements of all regulatory agencies licensing boards and state and federal laws.
    9. Provides input for development and revisions of policies procedures and standards of practice particular to the scope of care provided by the unit.
    10. Addresses customer satisfaction issues including patient physician and staff issues on an ongoing basis in a timely manner.
    11. Reviews customer satisfaction reports and provides input into addressing areas that need improvement.
    12. Initiates action to meet personal objectives.
    13. Functions as an integral team member and actively participates in unit council meetings and unit workgroups.
  3. Other Duties as Assigned
    1. Coordinates activities with other departments regarding need of patients.
    2. Acknowledges patient and family values and acts as a role model for the staff.
    3. Other duties as assigned.


Qualifications
  • Effective communication and leadership skills.
  • 3 years of RN experience.
  • 1 year of supervisor experience.
  • Graduate of an accredited nursing program; current Louisiana state RN licensed and BLS.
