Ready to keep our parks clean safe and welcoming The Department of Parks and Recreation(DPR)is seeking a motivatedPark Caretaker II tolead efforts in maintaining and enhancing our outdoor spaces in the Kakaako area. This full-time permanentposition involves maintaining the grounds facilities landscaping and special features such as native plant species at Kakaako Waterfront Park.
What Youll Do- Propagate plant maintain and care for native Hawaiian and other accepted plants across fields landscaped areas roadsides and park features including applying fertilizers pesticides and other treatments.
- Operate pick-up trucks trailers utility vehicles passenger-type mowers and various mowing equipment to maintain fields landscaped areas and park grounds.
- Follow and enforce park rules and regulations by providing information to the public checking permits identifying violations and addressing issues courteously and effectively.
- Perform repairs and preventive maintenance on park facilities and equipment including sprinkler systems play equipment fences tables benches and buildings.
- Clean and maintain restrooms and other park facilities replenishing supplies and servicing motorized equipment through regular maintenance and emergency repairs.
- Perform other related duties as required.
Special Work Requirements
- Work schedule is from Monday to Friday 6:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. with varying days off.
- May be required to work weekends nights and holidays.
- Will serve as a Disaster Response Worker during declared emergencies.

Minimum Qualification Requirements
At time of application you must be a citizen national or permanent resident alien of the United States or a non-citizen eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT:
Experience and/or training of sufficient scope and quality to show competence in manual labor and semi-skilled tasks in the care maintenance and beautification of landscaped areas; performance of semi-skilled or skilled building or mechanical trades experience; and/or operation or repair of passenger and/or tractor type mowers.
Key Competencies and Skills Needed:
- Ability to care for and cultivate plants trees shrubs and ground cover.
- Ability to perform heavy manual work in the repair and maintenance of buildings and park grounds.
- Ability to repair operate and maintain tractor type mowers.
- Ability to operate hand and power equipment and tools.
- Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
- Ability to deal effectively and courteously with the general public.
- Ability to learn pertinent laws rules and regulations and enforce them.
- Ability to make simple oral and written reports.
LICENSE REQUIREMENT:
At the time of application:
1. Valid Drivers License (Type 3).
Prior to appointment obtain and maintain from City Health Services:
1. Valid Hearing Conservation Program (HCP) test.
