The Ohio Veterans Homes part of Ohio Department of Veterans Services are trauma-informed care long-term care focused on providing excellent care to Ohios Veterans. The Veteran Homes provide direct nursing home care at facilities in Sandusky and Georgetown as well as domiciliary living to qualified veterans in Sandusky. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Prepare and cook foods according to standardized recipes
- Use standard and/or commercial kitchen equipment (e.g. steam kettles grill oven broiler meat slicer steamers fryers range top food processing equipment thermometer industrial mixer chill blaster)
- Use a thermometer to monitor and record food temperatures as instructed.
- Assist other cooks and food service workers in unloading pallets of food provisions and transferring to ingredient/storeroom coolers and daily meal ingredient carts.
- Receive stock deliveries and properly secures all frozen refrigerated & dry goods.
- Retrieve stock items from storage dates and rotates all refrigerated stock and utilizes first in/first out stock rotation/usage method.
- Set up service areas trays & carts and portions food in service areas.
- Maintain cleanliness and proper sanitation at all times in kitchen ingredient/storeroom as well as during preparation of meals.

The State will decline to extend a final offer of employment to any applicant with a verified positive test result. Also an applicant with a positive test result will not be considered for any position with the State of Ohio for a period of one year (not applicable to current state employees).
Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a criminal records check as required by Section 3721.121 of the Ohio Revised Code.
