The Child Mind Institute offers a one-year professional training program designed to prepare candidates for a successful career in clinical child and adolescent psychology. The position is housed in the Anxiety and Mood Disorders Center which offers innovative treatment services for children and adolescents with anxiety disorders through several specialized treatment programs including the Social Anxiety Program Selective Mutism Service and the Trauma and Resilience Service. The Centers clinicians are experts in the field in providing comprehensive clinical care using Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) including exposure and response prevention (ERP) Parent Child Interaction Therapy adapted for Selective Mutism (PCIT-SM) and other evidence-based treatments.

The Anxiety and Mood Disorders Center also offers cutting edge evidence-based tailored treatment for children adolescents and young adults suffering from mood disorders and related concerns. These include depressive disorders bipolar disorder disruptive mood dysregulation disorder suicidality and self-harm and emotional dysregulation as well as comorbid problems such as anxiety substance use exposure to trauma and executive functioning deficits. The center includes our comprehensive Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) program for children preadolescents adolescents and young adults. Clinicians work intensively with children parents and teachers and utilize a wide range of evidence-based intervention approaches including CBT DBT Behavioral Activation mindfulness-based interventions and Behavioral Parent Training (BPT) tailored for individuals with mood disorders. The fellow will have the opportunity to participate in all facets of our multidisciplinary group practice.

Reporting to the Senior Clinical Psychologist this is a full-time and exempt position in office 4 days per week and 1 day remote.


Primary Faculty

The staff in the San Francisco Bay Area Office includes leading clinical psychologists social workers and mental health counselors. Center staff regularly collaborates with pediatric neuropsychologists child and adolescent psychiatrists and child and adolescent psychologists and other staff from our multidisciplinary clinical team. The clinical team based in California includes the clinicians listed below. Fellows will also have opportunities to work with clinicians in our New York office via virtual team meetings and training opportunities.

You Will:

  • Conduct semi-structured clinical assessments and diagnostic evaluations for children adolescents young adults and families presenting with mental health concerns.
  • Provide evidence-based treatment including but not limited to cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) and behavioral interventions for mood disorders emotional dysregulation obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) anxiety-related disorders selective mutism and comorbid conditions in individual and group formats.
  • Co-treat and collaborate with clinicians in multidisciplinary teams and specialized treatment programs.
  • Participate in educational didactics multidisciplinary case conferences clinical meetings and the Visiting Professor lecture series.
  • Engage in comprehensive supervision including at least one hour of individual supervision per week and additional group supervision.

You Have:

  • PhD or PsyD degree from an APA-accredited program in clinical psychology school psychology or counseling psychology.
  • Full completion of doctoral degree by the beginning of the postdoctoral fellowship.
  • Successful completion of a pre-doctoral internship.
  • Flexibility to work hours including afternoon / evening hours to accommodate school schedules.

Pay Range

The salary range for the position is posted. Factors such as candidates work experience education/training job-related skills internal peer equity as well as market and business considerations affect the salary offered within this addition this salary may be subject to a geographic adjustment (according to a specific city and state and depending on the role) if an authorization is granted to work outside of the location listed in this posting.
