The Serverless Tooling team builds Cloud Native developer and platform tooling that boosts productivity and supports self-service for product teams across Kraken.

We work predominantly remotely but you will have the option to work from any Kraken office if you so desire.

As an engineer on this team youll design build and maintain the platforms and tools that make it easier for all of our engineers to ship code safely efficiently and reliably. Youll partner with product developers and other platform teams across the company to remove friction improve automation and enable self-service.

What youll do

  • Help us build tooling that enables our product delivery teams to go from idea to production both safely and rapidly
  • Collaborate with other engineering teams to understand their needs and translate them into practical platform solutions
  • Work alongside other engineers in the team to design and implement solutions that improve scalability reliability and developer experience
  • Take ownership of tasks while developing towards owning larger pieces of work
  • Contribute to ongoing learning and improvement through active participation in retrospectives and other agile ceremonies.
  • Work as part of a flexible support rota during normal working hours helping to triage and facilitate requests from other engineers.
  • What youll have

  • Solid communication skills and a collaborative approach to development.
  • Hands-on experience with AWS or another major cloud provider.
  • Familiarity with security best practices and automation tools.
  • Experience with some of the following areas well help you to learn the rest:
  • - Terraform CDK and CloudFormation

    - TypeScript or other strongly typed languages

    - CloudWatch Grafana Datadog or similar monitoring/logging tools

    - Cloud Native/Serverless distributed architectures

    - Networking basics

  • Experience contributing to the operation of production systems ideally in a distributed or cloud environment.
  • What will help

  • A proactive mindset and enthusiasm for learning from more senior engineers.
  • Exposure to multi-team environments or shared platform services.
  • Experience in agile ways of working including pair programming and refining/prioritising tasks as a team.
  • Interest in event-driven systems such as data streaming telemetry & IoT.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD and observability practices beyond the basics.
  • Understanding of the full web technology stack (network TCP/IP DNS routing HTTP/S).
  • Experience of supporting Critical National Infrastructure.
