Job Summary

Join Our Team at the School of Physical and Mathematical Sciences Nanyang Technological University Singapore

The School of Physical and Mathematical Sciences (SPMS) at NTU Singapore hosts research and education activities in two divisions: Division of Mathematical Sciences (MAS) and Division of Physics and Applied Physics (PAP). MAS covers diverse topics ranging from pure mathematics to the applications of mathematics in cryptography computing business and finance. PAP covers many areas of fundamental and applied physics including quantum information condensed matter physics biophysics and photonics. Over the years SPMS has attracted talented individuals from around the world and Singapore to join as scientific leaders and researchers.

Position Available: Research Assistant

Join the laboratory of Shen Yijie at the School of Physical and Mathematical Sciences. We are seeking a Research Assistant to contribute to a project focused on the theoretical and experimental investigation of the partial coherence properties of topological structured light and their behavior during propagation with a specific emphasis on the optical Skyrmions. This role will directly support the labs objective of advancing the frontiers of optical physics and nanophotonics.

  • Responsible for designing and executing numerical simulations (using MATLAB/ANSYS) to model the generation propagation and interaction of partially coherent structured light fields.

  • Assist in the setup alignment and calibration of relevant optical experiments.

  • Formulate and implement data analysis routines (using MATLAB/Python) to process experimental and simulation results particularly for coherence measurements (e.g. mutual coherence function Wigner distribution function).

  • Contribute to the preparation of research findings for publications presentations and internal lab reports including figure generation results discussion and summarization etc.

  • Conduct regular literature reviews to stay updated on advancements in structured light topological optics and coherence theory of light propagation.

Job Requirements:

  • A Bachelors degree in Physics Optical Engineering or a related discipline.

  • A strong theoretical foundation in optical physics particularly in electromagnetic theory topological optics and information theory.

  • Demonstrated experience in numerical simulation and data analysis using Python or MATLAB.
