Description
Under the general direction of the Executive Director the Development & Community Engagement Coordinator plays a vital role in strengthening the organizations relationships with donors community partners and the broader public. This position supports all aspects of fundraising donor relations communications and public engagement to advance Gateway Centers mission of empowering adults with developmental disabilities to live with dignity and independence. The ideal candidate is a strong communicator relationship builder and storyteller who thrives in a collaborative environment and is passionate about connecting the community to Gateway Centers mission.
Key Responsibilities
Fund Development & Donor Engagement:
- Support the Executive Director and development team in implementing annual fundraising strategies campaigns and appeals.
- Maintain accurate donor and prospect data in the CRM (currently Auxilia) ensuring timely gift processing and stewardship.
- Draft and personalize acknowledgment letters thank-you notes and donor impact communications.
- Conduct donor and grant prospect research prepare briefing materials and track giving trends.
- Assist with coordination of fundraising events campaigns and donor recognition activities.
Grants & Reporting:
- Support the preparation of grant proposals and reports by gathering data stories and documentation.
- Maintain a grants calendar and assist with meeting reporting deadlines.
- Track funding deliverables and metrics to support program impact reporting.
Community Engagement & Outreach:
- Collaborate with cross-department teams to promote programs services and resources at community events resource fairs and public meetings to raise awareness of the agencys services and mission.
- Cultivate relationships with local businesses civic organizations and potential partners to generate collaboration and sponsorship opportunities.
- Coordinate and promote volunteer engagement activities and community presentations.
- Assist in planning and executing outreach campaigns that highlight Gateways impact in the community.
- Communications and Marketing: Develop and manage content across Gateway Centers social media platforms newsletters and website.
- Create promotional and informational materials (flyers event collateral press releases) in coordination with staff.
- Capture stories and photos that illustrate Gateway Centers programs residents and community partnerships.
- Support brand consistency and public visibility across all outreach materials
Anticipated Impact:
- Strengthen Gateway Centers visibility and reputation across Monterey County.
- Improve donor retention and engagement through timely personalized communication.
- Improve donor stewardship grant reporting and outreach coordination.
- Free up leadership capacity for strategic growth and major donor cultivation.
Requirements
- Associates degree required Bachelors degree in communications marketing nonprofit management or related field preferred.
- 2 years of experience in fundraising community engagement or public relations
- Excellent written verbal interpersonal communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Google Workspace and web/social media platforms.
- Experience with donor databases/CRMs (e.g. Bloomerang Salesforce Auxilia etc.) a plus.
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Passion for Gateway Center mission and commitment to inclusion equity and community empowerment.
