Under direction the Public Health Supervising Therapist oversees and manages one or more Medical Therapy Units within the California Childrens Services (CCS) Medical Therapy Program. This role is responsible for supervising professional therapy staff coordinating patient care services ensuring compliance with state and federal standards for physical and occupational therapy and maintaining a caseload. The Supervising Therapist provides advanced clinical expertise participates in interdisciplinary case management and ensures high-quality therapy services to children with complex medical conditions and physical disabilities.
Distinguishing Characteristics:
The Supervising Therapist I is characterized by the responsibility for the operation of one or more MTU/sites including full scope of first line supervision of staff. It is further distinguished from Supervising Therapist II in that the latter is responsible for the oversight and supervision of the Supervising Therapist Is ensuring compliance with Outpatient Rehab Certification Requirements (OPRC) OPRC related clinical/programmatic education and assigned therapy program development.
EDUCATIONAL/BILINGUAL INCENTIVE:Some positions may be eligible for educational incentive. This incentive may be 2.5% 3.5% or 5% for incumbents in eligible positions based on completion of an Associates Bachelors or Masters degree that is not required for the classification. Incumbents may also be eligible for bilingual incentive depending upon operational need and certification of skill.

Supervising Therapist I is represented by the Services Employees International Union (SEIU) and is not eligible for overtime compensation.

Duties may include but are not limited to the following:
Education/Experience:
A Bachelors Degree from an accredited school of physical therapy occupational therapy or proof of equivalency.
In addition to the above two (2) years of prior employment as a physical or occupational therapist or one (1) year of employment in the hiring department.
Necessary Special Requirements
Knowledge Skills and Abilities:Working knowledge of: State and Federal guidelines which guide or direct the program which may include Medi-Cal California Department of Health Services JACHO; and clinic and department policies; budget planning; in-service training; modern management techniques; and administrative procedures.
Thorough knowledge of: Occupational Therapy Physical Therapy licensing standards; continuous quality care; organizational skills; all aspects of therapy services including carrying caseload responsibilities of licensed discipline.
Working ability to: interpret standards for Medi-Cal certification; time manage; plan and supervise the work of others; communicate effectively orally and in writing with patients families physicians and other staff; and ability to analyze personnel and organizational problems and implement corrective action to resolve conflicts.

In a typical T&E your training and experience are evaluated in relation to the background experience and factors identified for successful job performance during a job analysis. It is also highly recommended that the supplemental questions within the application are completed with care and diligence. Examinees must earn a score of seventy percent (70%) or higher to advance in the process.
ORAL EXAM 100%: A job-related oral exam will be conducted to evaluate and compare participating applicants knowledge skills and abilities in relation to those factors which job analysis has determined to be essential for successful performance of the job. Applicants must earn a score of seventy percent (70%) or higher to qualify for placement on the eligible list.
If there are three (3) or fewer qualified applicants an examination will not be conducted. Instead a score of seventy percent (70%) will be assigned to each application and each applicant will be placed on the eligible list.
Candidates successfully completing the examination process may be placed on an eligible list for a period of one (1) year.
