Job Description
The School of Plant and Environmental Sciences in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at Virginia Tech is inviting applications for an Instructor in Horticulture (9-month AY; primary teaching appointment) located in Blacksburg VA.
The main instructional focus of this position will be to lead our Floral Design course - HORT 2164. This course is a high-demand general education class taught both semesters. This class attracts many students from across the addition to Floral Design the incumbent will be required to teach 1-2 additional courses in the Horticulture curriculum related to the candidates interests and skills. The successful candidate is expected to use creative educational tools such as social and digital media in addition to traditional classroom instruction. A focus on experiential learning activities will be critical. Service activities related to public outreach and advising for Horticulture-related clubs will be expected.
Required Qualifications
Masters degree in horticulture plant science or closely related discipline; Evidence of strong communication skills as demonstrated through teaching and outreach activities; Ability to develop instructional content encompassing experiential learning online delivery and traditional classroom instruction.
Preferred Qualifications
College-level teaching experience in floriculture/horticulture and workplace experience in these areas.
