The Lead Wellness Coach works collaboratively with physicians and other healthcare providers to develop and deliver programs and services that promote sustainable lifestyle changes. Supports Mayo Clinic patients in discovering ways to inspire healthier behaviors. Responsible for developing relationships with patients and facilitating lifestyle change through a combination of efforts to increase awareness enhance motivation change behavior and create environments that achieve optimal quality of life. Supports the patient in developing the skills strategies and insights to become their own wellness coach and aligns their needs with the appropriate resources. Responsible for review analysis and documentation of patient results in clinical documentation tools. Participates as member to collaborative research teams that examine relationships among resiliency and overall health. Responsible for understanding and promoting the Healthy Living Program philosophy and assisting patients with establishing an ongoing relationship with Mayo Clinic. The Lead Wellness Coach will assist the Program Manager with the day to day operations of HLP. The Lead Wellness Coach assists in the development of staff schedules and with managing staffing to workload efforts. The Lead Wellness Coach will support the ongoing operations of the Wellness Coach Training Program including assisting students and faculty within the training program. This will include development of course schedules including staffing management for each course. May be assigned special projects and assignments as delegated by management.
Bachelors degree in social sciences (i.e. counseling psychology social work sociology) or health sciences (i.e. exercise science health education health promotion public health). Six years experience in health behavior change and/or wellness coaching in a healthcare corporate and/or consumer wellness setting. National Board Certification as Health and Wellness Coach preferred. One year experience as a Wellness Coach in the Healthy Living Program or one year experience in management required. Masters degree preferred or Master Certified in Health Education Specialist preferred. Must demonstrate effective coaching skills including reflective listening and motivational interviewing. Demonstrates insight into human behavior and the ability to motivate individuals to make positive lifestyle/behavior change. Excellent communication skills to engage with patients physicians and colleagues. Willingness to engage in continuous improvement feedback and processes. Ability to think critically in ambiguous situations take initiative and works collaboratively to maintain positive working relationships with patients and wellness/clinical health professionals. Maintains excellent customer service skills to foster a premium patient Life Support. Completion of the Mayo Clinic Wellness Coach Training Program/certification within 18 months of hire date.
