Under general direction the purpose a Traffic Accident Investigator (TAI) is to investigate all types of traffic crashes from minor to fatalities. The TAI will determine fault issue state citation(s) and testify in court. Traffic Accident Investigators investigate criminal and non-criminal offenses and incidents process minor crime scenes (i.e. recovered stolen vehicles burglary vehicles) and collect evidence. Traffic Accident Investigators free up road patrol officers from non-priority calls allowing the road patrol officers to attend to higher priority calls.


Typical Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Some related experience.
  • Must attend 104 hour Police Service Aide Foundations course if not already completed.
  • Certifications must be acquired upon hire in Traffic Control and Direction Parking Enforcement First Responder First Aid and CPR.
  • Must possess and maintain valid Florida Drivers license.

Supplemental Information

Work environment involves everyday risks or discomforts which require normal safety precautions typical of such places as office or meeting and training rooms e.g. use of safe work place practices with office equipment avoidance of trips and falls and observance of fire and building safety regulations and traffic signals when driving.
