TheMaterials Engineering Department which functionswithin the Mechanical Products Team is looking for an electrical failure analysis engineer to join our team. This position will support programs and their mission of performing electrical and materials root cause failure analysis and component evaluations. The position requires the ability to learn and understand electrical schematics circuit analysis digital processing RF analysis die level analysis and the materials of electrical components (metal wire bonding substrates solder adhesives & encapsulants). The devices evaluated can range from simple passive devices to complex custom microcircuits as well as wire harnesses cables connectors motors etc. The position requires the ability to work on several analyses concurrently. This role requires collaboration across the department to work with section members with areas of expertise in materials and chemistry.

What You Will Do

  • Analysis of electrical components such as: visual photo-documentation electrical testing non-destructive troubleshooting environmental testing x-ray evaluation destructive physical analysis (DPA) including decapsulation and/or cross-sections
  • Detailed documentation of results
  • Learn and operate laboratory equipment such as: microscopes oscilloscopes power supplies multimeters LCR meters curve tracers semiconductor parameter analyzers signal generators megohmmeters bond tester X-Ray Scanning Acoustic Microscope and others.

Qualifications You Must Have:

  • Bachelors or Masters degree in Electrical Engineering Materials Science/Engineering or Science Technology Engineering or Mathematics (STEM)
  • This position is for an intern who is enrolled in a Bachelors (or higher) degree program and will be at minimum entering their Sophomore year by the start of Summer 2026.
  • Experience with electrical test equipment such as; DMM curve tracer parametric analyzers multimeters megohmmeters etc.
  • Experience with microcircuits active & passive electrical components or other electrical components and materials

Qualifications We Prefer:

  • Electrical Engineering or Materials Science/Engineering preferred
  • Familiarity with component data sheets and drawings
  • Technical working knowledge of electronic component parts and their application
  • Knowledge of electrical schematics and circuit analysis
  • Ability to effectively work parallel analyses
  • Working knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite

  • Onsite: Employees who are working in Onsite roles will work primarily onsite. This includes all production and maintenance employees as they are essential to the development of our products.

The salary range for this role is 37000 USD - 82000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer including but not limited to the role function and associated responsibilities a candidates work experience location education/training and key skills.
