TMHC Inc. is currently recruiting an individual to serve as a Health & Safety Lead. The Health & Safety Lead is responsible for all facets of TMHCs occupational Health & Safety program including ensuring corporate and employee compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA) client policies and requirements and all other government policies and legislation. The person acting in this position will be responsible for developing and maintaining a team-focused Health & Safety program that is effective on the ground and on paper incorporating policy best practices reporting and active auditing for compliance.

Salary will be commensurate with experience ($81119.70 per annum based on a 40-hour work week).

Minimum of 3 years experience in a health-and-safety or compliance-focused role preferably within construction environmental consulting or other field-based industries.
Health & Safety Program
o Promoting a strong safety culture through proactive communication awareness and continuous improvement activities.
o Administering and maintaining TMHCs Health & Safety Program and policies to ensure compliance with the OHSA Workplace Safety and Insurance Act and other applicable legislation and regulations.
o Conducting job-site inspections and hazard assessments to confirm compliance identify risks and recommend corrective actions.
o Researching planning organizing and conducting annual Health & Safety training programs for employees including training on WHMIS Personal Protection Equipment CPR/First Aid and industry specific related issues.
o Tracking injuries illnesses and near-misses; performing preliminary investigations and contributing to root-cause analysis and corrective action plans.
o Assisting with return-to-work coordination in collaboration with Human Resources and Managers.
o Creating project specific Health & Safety plans (HASPs) for projects alongside general corporate Health & Safety and emergency plans.
Joint Health & Safety Committee (JHSC)
o Serving as a Certified JHSC Member and Co-Chair (Management Representative) in accordance with the OHSA.
o Leading and coordinating all JHSC meetings ensuring agendas minutes and action items are prepared distributed and followed up in a timely manner.
o Facilitating open discussion of Health & Safety issues ensuring balanced participation from both worker and management representatives.
o Maintaining accurate records of all meetings inspections and recommendations.
o Ensuring all JHSC documentation and correspondence complies with legislative and internal policy requirements.
Hazard Identification
o Coordinating and participating in monthly workplace inspections to identify potential hazards and non-compliance issues.
o Supporting JHSC members in documenting hazards recommending corrective actions and verifying completion.
o Reviewing and analyzing inspection findings and trends escalating unresolved issues to management and Principals.
o Assisting workers and managers in implementing safe work procedures and controls identified though inspections or investigations.
Post-secondary diploma or degree in Occupational Health & Safety Environmental Health or related field
Sound knowledge of the OHSA and associated regulations alongside WSIB requirements
Demonstrated experience leading JHSC activities serving in a management role and conducting inspections and investigations preparing compliance documentation and developing training
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to build rapport and influence at all levels of the organization
Demonstrated experience in Health & Safety leadership at the management level
Strong administrative and organizational skills with attention to documentation and record management
Ability to interpret and apply legislation policies and safe-work practices
Proficiency in and comfort with the use of Microsoft 365 programs (Word Excel Teams Outlook SharePoint) noting that experience with digital incident-tracking and Health & Safety software is an asset
Ability to think proactively critically and strategically both short- and long-term
Strong focus on customer and employee relations both internal and external
Valid Ontario drivers licence and willingness to travel and drive corporate vehicles to conduct site inspections as required
