BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE OF THE ASSIGNMENT
WFP evaluations assess the performance and results of its policies strategies programmes and activities to support accountability and learning and to inform future direction. The evaluation function is embedded in WFPs culture to promote evidence-based decision-making and strengthen its contribution to ending global hunger. It operates through a model of centralized and decentralized evaluations as well as impact evaluations requiring strong integration across the organization.
The Evaluation Volunteer Assistant will support the Regional Evaluation Officer and collaborate with APARO OEV and country offices to implement the WFP Evaluation Policy (2022) and the Regional Evaluation Strategy (). The role includes clerical support for data and knowledge management dissemination of evaluation products and assistance with decentralized evaluations in line with WFP Decentralized Evaluation Guidance (DEQAS).
DUTY AND RESPONSIBILITIES
EXPECTED OUTCOMES
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
Education: University degree in one of the following fields: social sciences statistics development economics performance management monitoring and evaluation; or First University degree with additional years of relevant work experience and/or training/courses.
Experience: One to three years of relevant professional experience in evaluation in development and/humanitarian international cooperation including field experience is desirable.
Knowledge & Skills:
- Strong grasp of Monitoring and Evaluation policies and fundamental concepts of related disciplines;
- Training or certification in monitoring and evaluation (e.g. IPDET CLEAR etc.) or equivalent qualification is an advantage;
- Experience in data collection data analysis and data management is desirable;
- Good knowledge of the UN system and functioning of key international donors in post-crisis and crisis settings is desirable;
- Ability to work and adapt professionally and effectively in a challenging environment; ability to work effectively in a multicultural team of international and national personnel;
- Excellent oral and written skills; excellent drafting formulation reporting skills;
- Solid overall computer literacy including proficiency in various MS Office applications (Excel Word etc.) and email/internet; familiarity with database management; and office technology equipment;
- Keen interest to improve as a professionally competent evaluator within the framework of national evaluation capacity of the country.
- Basic knowledge of programme design implementation and operational challenges in food and nutrition security.
