Sentara Heart Hospital located on the campus of Sentara Norfolk General Hospital in Norfolk Virginia is hiring a Registered Nurse for the Cardiovascular Surgical ICU (CVICU)!

Up to $15000 Sign on Bonus available for Qualified Candidates!

The Registered Nursing (RN) is responsible to perform a competent level of nursing care as demonstrated by the critical thinking model known as the nursing process. The standards of practice (assessment diagnosis outcomes identification planning implementation coordination of care- teaching and health promotion and evaluation) along with the standards of professional performance (ethics culturally congruent practice communication collaboration leadership education evidence- based practice /nursing research quality evaluation resource utilization and environmental health) encompass the actions and foundation of professional nursing. The RN possesses clinical knowledge and skills to meet standards as required by specific clinical areas.

The Sentara Heart Hospital a 112-bed care facility is #2 for Cardiology services and Heart Surgery in the State of Virginia and ranks #24 in the nation for best heart programs.

Education

Associates degree or Diploma in Registered Nursing (required)

Bachelor of Science Nursing- BSN or MSN (Preferred)

Certification/Licensure

Virginia RN License Virginia or Compact/Multi-State Eligible.

All Direct Care RNs required to have BLS within 90 days of hire and ACLS within 1 year of hire.

Experience

1 year of RN Experience required

1 year of Intermediate - Stepdown level of care with cardiac knowledge ideal ED PCU or 1 years of Medical/Surgical experience.

Nurse Transition to Practice Program:

At Sentara we are committed to ensuring our nurses thrive from the very beginning of their journey. To support this all nurses new to critical care will participate in our comprehensive 12-week Transition to Practice program. This program is designed to blend practical skills with hands-on training professional development and mentorship equipping you with the confidence and expertise needed to excel in your critical care nursing career.

Our Transition to Practice program features a mix of classroom teaching methodologies and a preceptor-based unit orientation. You will engage in 8 sessions that include live simulations case studies and problem-based learning. These sessions cover essential topics such as critical care patient assessment and documentation respiratory and cardiac care vasoactive medications hemodynamics and invasive monitoring neurological care post-operative and procedural care GI/renal systems ACLS mega code sedation analgesia neuromuscular blockade and effective communication with providers and families.
