Los Angeles County Office of Education (LACOE) is looking for qualified individuals seeking to combine management accounting and budgeting experience with a desire to make a difference in an educational environment as an Assistant Director Accounting and Budget Development.
The Assistant Director Accounting & Budget Development plans organizes coordinates and manages the activities and functions of assigned staff involved in the operations of general accounting budget and finance payroll accounts payable & receivable (AP/AR) grants project management pupil attendance accounting education programs fiscal support and financial systems support services.
The Well Qualified Candidate Will Possess the Following
Knowledge:
Principles practices techniques and applications of governmental accounting budgeting auditing and financial forecasting analysis
Federal state and local laws relating to accounting practices procedures and reporting requirements
Federal state and local regulations related to education programs Head Start and Early Head Start California Department of Education and grant-funded programs
Capabilities concepts and applications of financial accounting budgeting and payroll computer systems
Principles of organization design and structure supervision budgeting personnel administration and management
Terminology methods practices and techniques of design administration research testing and assessment of enterprise financial systems
Fundamental employment laws codes and regulations including EEO FLSA FMLA and Cal/OSHA and applicable provisions of collective bargaining agreements

Required Education and ExperienceEducation:A bachelors degree or higher in accounting finance business administration or a field closely related to the job requirements of this classification from an institution of higher learning accredited by the regional accreditation associations as recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation. Foreign degrees and credit units require translation and equivalency established by an agency recognized by the Commission on Teacher Credentialing.
Experience:Five years of experience in accounting budget and finance including three years in a supervisory capacity.
Additional Requirements:A valid California Drivers license and the availability of private transportation or the ability to provide transportation between job sites is required. A valid California Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license and school district experience are desired.
Hybrid remote schedules may be available. To ensure the health and safety of its staff LACOE may require employees to provide evidence of full vaccination against COVID-19.
Selection ProcessCandidates who meet the minimum requirements above will be invited to participate in an examination that may consist of a performance assessment and/or a technical interview.
