About the Role

Working to support the Copper SA Asset which is a complex mining and metals processing operation in South will be reporting to the Engineering Copper SA Mechanical Lead Engineer and will be responsible for providing specialist technical expertise to the operation.


This position is offered on a 5/2 roster based in Adelaide with regular (approximately fortnightly) travel to Olympic Dam Prominent Hill and/or Carrapateena. Rostered flexible and part-time working arrangements will be considered.

In this role you will:

  • Be first and foremost focused on creating a culture of care by being a visible safety leader engaging developing and coaching your team.
  • Provide technical guidance and knowledge to support projects maintenance operations third parties and contractors to align with Engineering Copper SA standards.
  • Generate and/or verifies calculations review designs technical assessments and reports.
  • Work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team to solve complex problems.
  • Provide specialist engineering expertise and ensure standards are followed.
  • Provide mentoring and coaching to ensure the success of the team.
  • Support the operation through identification and implementation of initiatives to support the business priority of continuous improvement.
  • Develop review or update the technical documentation (engineering standards procedures and drawings) from which the operation is designed constructed operated and maintained.
  • Establish and maintain close working relationships with relevant departments suppliers consultants and contractors.
  • Have a strong focus in sustainability and safety in design principles risk identification and risk assessment in all activities.
  • Support Management of Change (MoC) process to ensure safe and compliant implementation of modifications.

About You

You will need to possess the following attributes:

  • Bachelor of Engineering in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent. Chartered Professional Engineer status will be considered favourable.
  • Minimum 7 years of relevant mechanical engineering experience with a demonstrated understanding of Mechanical Engineering principles in industrial processing mining water oil and gas or heavy industry appropriate to a complex processing facility.
  • Technical knowledge and design capabilities in pipework pumps valves tanks pressure equipment hydraulic systems and slurry systems.
  • Experienced across all phases of engineering from initial concept development through detailed design implementation commissioning and operational support.
  • Experience with applying safety in design to engineering deliverables including governing assurance requirements.
  • Excellent communication and engagement skills with an interest in providing technical leadership stewardship support and solutions
  • Exceptional attention to detail innovative problem-solving and a strong aptitude for applying engineering judgment.
