Job Description:
Position Summary
The Assistant Director of Care (ADOC) supports the Director of Care in overseeing clinical operations ensuring high-quality resident care and maintaining compliance with legislative and organizational standards. This role provides leadership to nursing staff supports quality improvement initiatives and ensures effective communication across the interdisciplinary team.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Leadership & Resident Care Oversight
- Monitor resident status changes high-risk incidents responsive behaviours falls and care concerns to ensure timely follow-up and accurate documentation.
- Conduct regular rounds in all resident care areas ensuring cleanliness safety and adherence to care standards.
- Participate in morning leadership meetings and provide updates related to staffing resident clinical status incidents IPAC documentation and equipment.
- Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to ensure coordinated resident care and timely communication.
Quality Assurance & Documentation Review
- Review the Home Dashboard including skin and wound indicators clinical alerts medication administration outstanding orders IPAC surveillance and hospital transfers.
- Audit documentation in PCC eMAR POC and program-specific tools to ensure accuracy completion and regulatory compliance.
- Review all resident deaths to ensure accurate completion of the Death Registry.
Medication Management Oversight
- Perform medication room auditsincluding cleanliness organization temperature logs expiry checks and proper storage.
- Audit medication carts for resident-specific bins expiry dates narcotic security labeling and general organization.
- Audit the narcotic count process and ensure compliance with medication safety standards.
- Review the Drug Record Book and follow up on any discrepancies.
Team Collaboration & Staffing Support
- Provide nursing leadership support to Registered Staff and PSWs including coaching problem-solving and escalation of concerns.
- Participate in care conferences as scheduled.
- Ensure pagers iPads and other clinical devices are functioning and accounted for.
- Communicate with the DOC regarding resident care needs complaints incidents and required follow-up actions.
Program Management
Support the management and ongoing development of clinical and quality programs including:
- Falls Prevention
- Skin & Wound Care
- Pain Management
- Continence Care
- Palliative & End-of-Life Care
- Infection Prevention & Control (IPAC)
Responsibilities include:
- Attending program meetings
- Assisting with agendas audits and follow-up
- Monitoring indicators and compliance
- Communicating program updates and actions to the interdisciplinary team
Audit & Risk Management
- Ensure Post-Fall Huddles 72-hour assessments and behaviour debriefs are completed and properly documented.
- Audit responsive behaviour incidents falls medication incidents and safety-related events to ensure timely follow-up and corrective actions.
- Track incident trends and collaborate with the DOC and QI Lead on risk mitigation strategies.
- Present audit findings during quality and risk management discussions.
Meetings Education & Communication
- Coordinate and facilitate PSW and Registered Staff unit meetings in collaboration with the QI Lead.
- Maintain meeting minutes escalate concerns to the DOC and provide timely feedback to staff.
- Participate as an active member of the Joint Health & Safety Committee (OJHSC).
Qualifications
- Registered Nurse (RN) in good standing with the CNO
- Leadership experience in Long-Term Care preferred
- Strong knowledge of FLTCA IPAC quality improvement and LTC documentation systems
- Excellent communication critical thinking and resident-focused leadership skills
Compensation:
The target hiring range for this position is $76120.88 to $95151.09 with a maximum of $114181.31.
Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions internal equity and candidate experience skills and qualifications relevant to the role.
