Overview
Provides the administration of medicines based on current state regulations under the direct supervision and direction of charging nurse.
Responsibilities
Clinical Practices
- Performs all assigned patient care responsibilities and tasks according to the standards of care at NLH and the Emergency Department and within the NH BON scope of practice established for LNAs.
Safe Environment
- Monitors the ED environment to assure that it is safe and free from hazards.
- Recognizes safety issues and reports these issues immediately to the Registered Nurse to minimize risk of injury.
- Performs all assigned patient care responsibilities and tasks according to the standards of care at NLH and the Emergency Department.
- Promotes safety while ensuring patient rights.
- Cleaning and restocking of Emergency Department equipment and supplies
Routine Tasks
Performs routine tasks as directed which may include:
- Administer Fleet Enema
- Administer Non-Medicated Suppositories
- Alternative Therapies and Comfort Measures
- Measurement for Crutches Ortho Boot Ortho Splint Device
- Assist with Oxygen Therapy
- Bladder Colostomy and NG Irrigations
- Bladder Scan or Doppler
- Blood Glucose Monitoring
- Collection of Flu and Strep Swabs
- EKGs with Competencies
- Finger Stick PT/INR
- Foley Irrigations
- Incentive Spirometry
- Medication Pick-Up from Pharmacy
- Oral suctioning of mouth and nares only
- Peripheral Vein IV Removal
- Phlebotomy with Competencies
- Pulse Oximetry
- Regulate Oxygen Therapy Flow Rate
- Removal of Foley Catheters
- Routine Stable Wound Care
- Saline Nasal Lavage
- Straight Urinary Catheters
- Test Stool for Occult Blood
Qualifications
- Graduate of state-approved Licensed Nursing Program and Medication Administration Course
- Minimum 2 years as LNA ED experience preferred
Required Licensure/Certifications
REQUIRED LICENSE(S):
LNA - NH or temp LNA - NH
