Job Summary

Job Summary:

The Lead Nuclear Medicine Technologist is responsible for preparing and administering radiopharmaceutical drugs for nuclear imaging (PET and SPECT scans) using specialized equipment. This role involves ensuring compliance with licensing standards overseeing billing and research activities managing patient care and supervising staff. The position also requires performing all standard Nuclear Medicine Technologist duties.

Duties and Essential Job Functions:

1. Licensing and Regulatory Compliance:

- Maintain and perform quality control testing for radiopharmaceuticals.

- Ensure policies and procedures adhere to licensing standards.

- Provide monthly peer review images/reports for MD review.

- Complete the application for ACR renewal and assist physicists with state license renewals/addendums.

- Be available for state/ACR inspections and attend annual Radiation Safety Committee meetings.

2. Billing and Financial Management:

- Review approve and maintain records of isotope doses received used and returned.

- Obtain and compare quotes for necessary equipment.

- Reconcile daily billing exam reports and images sent to PACS; perform corrective actions as needed.

3. Research and Protocols:

- Assist with completing applications/forms for new studies and review new protocols.

- Attend bi-weekly research meetings with the Cancer Center Director and Physicist.

- Provide training and support to staff on data entry and patient queries.

- Obtain quotes for research equipment and schedule patients.

4. Patient and External Care:

- Provide image data to patients and external clinics.

- Ensure patient comfort and explain procedures clearly before exams.

- Safely transfer and position patients maintain intravenous (IV) access and administer medications as prescribed.

5. Scheduling and Department Operations:

- Assist the front desk with scheduling and confirming appointments.

- Adjust schedules due to exam orders or staffing issues.

- Supervise PRN nuclear medicine technologists ensuring training and performance reviews.

- Review and submit images daily ensure accurate dosing and maintain inventory and supply ordering.

6. Imaging Procedures:

- Set up imaging rooms with appropriate isolation precautions.

- Use two patient identifiers select proper imaging devices and provide shielding.

- Review images for diagnostic quality and adjust as necessary.

- Dispose of decayed waste according to regulations.

7. Education and Training:

- Assist with research projects and instruct students from imaging programs.

- Provide guidance on technical knowledge and skill improvements.

- Demonstrate procedures and equipment to faculty residents and students.

Competencies:

- Self-motivated with strong organizational and multitasking skills.

- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

- Ability to handle sensitive information with confidentiality.

- Proficient in imaging equipment regulatory standards and quality improvement.

Qualifications:

- Bachelors Degree or Nuclear Medicine Technology program graduate.

- Certification by ARRT or NMTCB and CPR certification.

- Two years of clinical experience and registered as a Nuclear Medicine Technologist.

Physical and Environmental Conditions:

- Moderate physical activity is required including lifting to 100 pounds.

- Exposure to moderate noise levels and varying environmental conditions.
