7:30 a.m. 4:00 p.m.
3:30 p.m. 12:00 a.m.
Each shift includes one 30-minute unpaid meal break and two 15-minute paid breaks based on workload and staffing needs.
Position OverviewVeterans Engineering is seeking dedicated Mental Health Aides to support the VA North Texas Health Care System. This position plays a key role in providing therapeutic and supportive care to Veterans in residential and rehabilitation programs. The ideal candidate is compassionate observant and committed to maintaining a safe structured and recovery-oriented environment.
Key ResponsibilitiesMonitor and document patients behaviors concerns and overall well-being.
Conduct regular rounding and ensure patient safety and engagement.
Promptly report changes in health or behavior to clinical staff.
Lead and assist with therapeutic social and recreational activities.
Support patient intake discharge and transition processes.
Escort and supervise patients throughout the facility.
Maintain compliance with VA policies confidentiality and professional conduct standards.
Education:
High School Diploma or equivalent required.
Two years of college (minimum 12 semester hours in health sciences nursing behavioral or social science guidance counseling teaching or related fields) preferred.
Experience:
Minimum one (1) year of direct patient care experience in a behavioral health rehabilitation or mental health setting.
Experience assisting medical and clinical staff in therapeutic and supportive tasks.
Certifications:
Basic Life Support (BLS) required.
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) preferred.
Must complete all VA-mandated training (BLS EHR compliance modules etc.).
Technical Skills:
Proficient in computer use and Electronic Medical Records (EMR) systems (Cerner experience preferred).
Strong communication skillsboth verbal and writtenin English.
Current resume/CV outlining relevant experience and education.
Three professional references (name title organization contact information).
Successful completion of background checks and VA credentialing prior to placement.
