About the Department of Speech Language and Hearing Sciences
The Department of Speech Language and Hearing Sciences offers the BS MA AuD and PhD degrees. Both the MA and AuD programs are CAA-accredited and student stipends are available from federal training and research grants. The Department currently has 20 full-time faculty members (including research clinical and teaching positions) and is located within the School of Public Health and Health Sciences on the University of Massachusetts (UMass) Amherst campus. UMass Amherst has been classified as having Very High Research Activity by the Carnegie Foundation. The statewide University system has five campuses including a medical school located in Worcester 50 miles from Amherst. The Department is committed to increasing the diversity of the faculty student body and curriculum.
Job Summary
The Department of Speech Language and Hearing Sciences is searching for anAssistant Professor for a full-time nine-month tenure-track position beginning September 2026. The successful candidate will be teaching undergraduate and/or graduate courses; advising students; providing service to the department school and university; and establishing an independent fundable research program.
Requirements
Qualified candidates must have a PhD (or equivalent) in audiology hearing science or a related discipline by the appointment date. All areas of expertise related to audiology and hearing science will be considered. We are also particularly interested in applicants who conduct research in pediatrics hearing technologies and/or public health approaches to hearing healthcare. Applicants are not required to hold an ASHA Certificate of Clinical Competence in Audiology (CCC-A); however they must possess the ability to teach courses in the Doctor of Audiology program. Candidates should have a strong record of peer-reviewed publications commensurate with career stage evidence of independent and collaborative research potential demonstrated potential to develop an extramurally funded research program and an interest in developing excellent teaching skills.
Salary Information
It is expected that the salary range for this position is between $79350 and $105300.
