From nuts and bolts to widgets and gadgets - you know your parts inventory! Were looking for an organized and detail-oriented Parts Technician to join our team! In this role youll play a key part in keeping our Citys transit fleet on the move. Youll work in Transit Fleet Maintenance locations assessing and fulfilling parts and material requirements for a variety of buses light-rail vehicles and other supporting needs.
Your responsibilities will include sourcing ordering receiving unpacking inspecting warehousing and distributing parts and materials. Youll also maintain accurate inventory records and provide excellent customer service to mechanics and supporting teams. What will you do:
- Collaborate with business partners to identify and understand parts and material requirements in order to provide excellent customer service
- Review manufacturers parts books catalogs and other resources to select the correct parts or materials based on submitted orders and/or field confirmation
- Work with internal teams and external suppliers to source requirements and coordinate delivery within business required timelines
- Maintain paperwork for orders deliveries returns and other activities for operational and audit purposes
- Make recommendations for inventory requirements alternatives and stocking levels
- Ensure the warehouse and stocked inventory are efficiently organized and maintained conducting cycle counts and investigating when discrepancies are identified
- Record your work in our corporate inventory management system (SAP) and computerized fleet management system (M5)
- Refer to and follow Standard Operating Occupational Health and Safety and Environmental procedures policies and standards
- Perform other related duties as required
- Alberta Journeyman Parts Technician Certification or Interprovincial Red Seal equivalent
- 1 year experience working as a journeyman parts technician
- Occupational Health and Safety; WHMIS; SOS; TDG training
Assets:
- Fork lift truck license is an asset
Skills required for success:
- Knowledge of materials and equipment used by Transit Services
- Knowledge of inventory management automated office and inventory control systems
- Knowledge of electronic and manual parts lookup practices purchasing and requisitioning procedures
- Knowledge and experience related to storage and handling of hazardous goods
- Excellent customer service skills
- Excellent listening verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work highly independent; ability to take initiative and be resourceful
- Ability to identify where non-standard processes should apply; ability to make effective recommendations and seek approval for action as required
- Ability to consider impact to other organizations and business units
- Physical ability to perform work functions of this position
- Ability to operate a forklift
Conditions of Employment:
- Candidates are required to hold a valid Alberta Class 5 drivers licence (or provincial equivalent) Obtaining and maintaining a City Drivers permit is a requirement of this position
- Hire is dependent on a Criminal Records Check (CRC) security clearance that is satisfactory to the City of Edmonton and is a requirement of this position. There may be a cost associated with this requirement
Work Environment:
- Physical ability to lift a weight of up to 100lbs
- Physical ability to reach top shelves with the aid of a stepladder
- May work in dry humid dusty areas
- May be exposed to precipitation and bright/ dark work environments
- May handle chemicals for fleet maintenance related orders
- PPE Required - Steel toed footwear. May include safety eyewear
- May work alone and/or on different shifts

Hours of Work: 40 hours per week. Evening and weekend shift work is required where applicable.
Salary Range: $39.078 (Hourly); $81594.860 (Annually)
