KBR is seeking a Senior MS SQL Database Administrator to join our Global Database team in Houston TX and ensure the performance reliability and security of enterprise database environments supporting critical business this role you will manage maintain and optimize SQL Server databases oversee database backup and recovery processes and support the development and implementation of database standards across the organization. You will collaborate with application infrastructure and security teams to troubleshoot issues improve system performance and ensure compliance with IT governance and data management policies. This position requires participation in an on-call rotation and occasional work outside normal business hours to support global operations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Administer maintain and optimize Microsoft SQL Server environments across on-premises and cloud infrastructure to ensure system stability availability and performance
- Perform installation configuration patching and upgrades of SQL Server instances ensuring alignment with enterprise infrastructure standards
- Implement and manage database backup recovery and disaster recovery solutions to support business continuity
- Monitor database performance and system health proactively identifying and resolving issues related to capacity performance and reliability
- Manage database security including user access controls encryption and audit compliance in accordance with corporate IT policies
- Support the design deployment and maintenance of SQL Server clustering replication and Always On Availability Groups
- Collaborate with infrastructure storage and network teams to ensure optimal database performance and system integration
- Develop and maintain operational documentation including standard operating procedures architecture diagrams and configuration baselines
- Participate in an on-call rotation to provide after-hours support and respond to critical incidents affecting database operations
- Ensure adherence to IT governance change management and compliance standards for all database systems
- Contribute to automation monitoring and performance-tuning initiatives to improve database reliability and administrative efficiency
Basic Qualifications:
Education & Experience:
- Bachelors degree in Computer Science Information Technology Management Information Systems Systems Engineering Business Administration or a related field. Equivalent work experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
- Minimum of 7 years of hands-on experience in database administration including the installation configuration and management of enterprise-scale Microsoft SQL Server environments.
Technical Expertise:
- Extensive experience in Microsoft SQL Server installation configuration and upgrades including version migrations backup and recovery (Native SQL Rubrik etc.) replication and data migration activities
- Strong proficiency in Transact-SQL (T-SQL) database security and access controls and high availability setup support and maintenance
- Hands-on experience with Azure SQL including database creation configuration and management as well as data migration between on-premises and cloud environments
- Proficient in Azure SQL security features including private endpoint configuration access management and troubleshooting performance-related issues
- Skilled in database monitoring alert management performance tuning capacity planning and proactive system optimization
- Solid understanding of SQL Server patching processes version management and licensing models
- Proficiency in scripting and automation using PowerShell batch scripts or equivalent tools
- Ability to participate in on-call rotations including weekends and after-hours support for critical systems
- Strong organizational analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work independently while keeping management and stakeholders informed
- Adaptable and eager to learn new technologies tools and database management techniques
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience administering additional database platforms such as Oracle Sybase MySQL or PostgreSQL
- Familiarity with Linux operating systems and command-line administration
- Experience with SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) for report development and management
Additional Compensation: KBR may offer bonuses commissions or other forms of compensation to certain job titles or levels per internal policy or contractual designation.
