The Department of Economic Security Division of Employment and Rehabilitation Services (DERS) strengthens Arizona communities by bridging and minimizing gaps to employment and independence.

DES is seeking an experienced and highly motivated individual to join our team as a Business Intelligence Analyst Intermediate working with the Finance and Business Operations Administration (FBOA). This position is responsible for extracting analyzing and interpreting data from a variety of systems and sources to support data informed decision making across the division and its programs. The position plays a key role in connecting disparate data sources uncovering patterns and identifying gaps in data collection or usage. The analyst must be comfortable working within multiple internal IT systems transforming raw data into usable formats and exploring new tools and methods that improve analytical capacity.

Travel will be required for State business. Any employee operating a motor vehicle on State business must possess and retain a current valid class-appropriate drivers license complete all required training and successfully pass all necessary drivers license record checks. The license must be current unexpired and neither revoked nor suspended. Employees who drive on State business are subject to drivers license record checks must maintain acceptable driving records and must complete all required driver training. An employee who operates a personally owned vehicle on State business shall maintain the statutorily required liability insurance (see Arizona Administrative Code A.A.C. R.11).

All work including remote work should be performed within Arizona unless an exception is properly authorized in advance.

Job Duties:

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Performs analysis using statistical exploratory and descriptive techniques to identify trends relationships and anomalies within datasets that support data-informed decision-making.
Documents methodologies assumptions and data sources used in analysis to ensure transparency and consistency across the team.
Collaborates with stakeholders to identify analytical needs clarify requirements and develop appropriate metrics reports and visualizations that support the program and divisions goals.
Extracts transforms and integrates data from various internal systems spreadsheets and external sources for use in analysis and reporting.
Identifies opportunities to improve data capture and usability.
Assists in performing data quality checks and assessments identifying data integrity issues and collaborating with program and/or technical staff to address them.
Produces recurring and ad hoc reports dashboards and presentations using clear and accessible formats tailored to audience needs.

Knowledge Skills & Abilities (KSAs):

Knowledge of statistical and descriptive analysis concepts.
Knowledge of common tools for data extraction cleaning and modeling e.g. Excel SQL
Knowledge of best practices on data visualization and reporting.
Knowledge of data validation and quality checking methods.
Skill in extracting and transforming data from spreadsheets reports and internal systems.
Skill in communicating findings to non-technical users using common language.
Skill in creating clear & accurate charts graphs and dashboard.
Skill in practice effective organization time management project prioritization and planning.
Ability to provide effective guidance to DERS customers related to data analysis.
Ability to develop and foster relationships with project stakeholders.
Ability to learn new programs data tools and systems quickly.
Ability to ask thoughtful questions that lead to better data analysis.
Ability to review and evaluate analytically to include root cause analysis to solve problems and make improvements.

Selective Preference(s):

Bachelors Degree and 2 years of experience in data analysis.

Any combination of training and experience that meets the knowledge skills and abilities (KSAs).

Retirement:

State employees are required to participate in the Arizona State Retirement System (ASRS) the State sponsored retirement contribution plan and the Long-Term Disability (LTD) program after a 27-week waiting period. The ASRS defined benefit plan provides for life-long income upon retirement. You will also have the option to participate in a voluntary deferred compensation program to take advantage of tax-deferred retirement investments.
