Job Summary

Air Liquide is a world leader in gases technologies and services for industry and health. Present in 60 countries with 66 300 employees the Group serves more than 4 million customers and patients. Oxygen nitrogen and hydrogen are small molecules essential to life matter and energy. They embody Air Liquides scientific territory and have been at the heart of the Groups business since its creation in 1902.
Air Liquide places diversity at the heart of its activities and is committed in particular to promoting professional equality and the employment of workers with disabilities.
The Paris Innovation Campus (78 - Les Loges en Josas) is Air Liquides largest R&D center.
It develops innovative solutions for all of the Groups activities. More than 250 researchers work in 48 laboratories equipped with state-of-the-art equipment and experimental platforms enabling them to explore numerous research.

Reducing CO2 emissions of the most carbon-intensive industries developing sustainable transport. When produced from renewable resources hydrogen can tackle the carbon emissions of industry and intensive transport which are responsible for 45% of the planets CO2 emissions. Decarbonized hydrogen could thus play a decisive role in the fight against climate change.
Air Liquide innovates in hydrogen transportation by using new generation tanks made of composite materials. Inspection & maintenance of such tanks are a key point for the supply-chain safety. New methods of monitoring may bring efficiency in ensuring the structural health of hydrogen tanks.

How will you CONTRIBUTE and GROW

The integration of piezoelectric transducers into hydrogen storage structures is a key enabler for advancing hydrogen as a sustainable energy carrier in transportation. Embedded transducers form the foundation of mecaplastronic approaches providing an effective means to monitor in-situ the manufacturing quality and to ensure mechanical reliability of the vessels throughout their service life. This internship project aims to establish a structured methodology for the selection and optimization of the process-material-transducer triad with the objective of ensuring both the mechanical performance and the in-situ monitoring capabilities of hydrogen composite pressure vessels. The influence of processing parameters on the mechanical properties of transducers-instrumented composites will be investigated across multiple scales under extreme mechanical loading conditions. Particular attention will be given to interlaminar damage mechanisms studied through the Laser Shock technique which allows precise localization of inter-ply cracking detailed analysis of crack initiation and propagation and assessment of their impact on overall structural performance. The study will also extend to an in-depth evaluation of hydrogen tank composite materials examining their behavior under quasi-static high-rate dynamic and fatigue loading conditions. A combined experimental and numerical approach will be employed to better understand performance in critical areas with a special focus on interlaminar failure. The outcomes of this work will provide a solid foundation for developing next-generation design tools for composite hydrogen tanks subjected to complex loadings.
