BMO Capital Markets is a leading full-service financial services provider offering corporate and investment banking treasury management as well as research and advisory services to clients globally. We are seeking an Associate to join our Electronic Trading Risk & Control team. This role is pivotal in supporting the key activities and governance framework for Markets Venues and Connections (MVC) Financial Market Infrastructure (FMI) Algorithmic Trading and Electronic Trading within BMO Capital Markets.
Key Responsibilities:
Control Framework Support
Assist in the implementation and execution of a control framework specific to onboarding new electronic MVCs and FMI ensuring alignment with industry best practices and regulatory requirements.
Assist in the implementation and execution of the Algorithmic and Electronic Trading governance frameworks
Support enhancements to existing policies procedures and controls to effectively monitor and manage on-venue trading activities.
Governance Oversight:
Participate in the governance process for on-venue trading ensuring all new venues adhere to established guidelines and risk parameters.
Collaborate on maintaining governance structures that facilitate effective decision-making and accountability within the trading division.
Regulatory Compliance:
Stay informed of relevant regulatory developments and assist in ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations through the governance frameworks.
Work with compliance and project teams to support the development and implementation of training programs for traders and other stakeholders on regulatory requirements and company policies.
Reporting:
Assist in the preparation of regular reports on trading controls governance issues and compliance status for senior management and relevant stakeholders.
Operational Risk Management:
Support post-incident reviews to identify root causes and assist in implementing corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
Map and analyze trade data and processes to identify and analyze potential gaps or opportunities.
Stakeholder Engagement:
Collaborate with cross-functional teams including trading technology global markets engineering trade floor supervision compliance operational risk and audit to promote a culture of governance and control.
Serve as a key point of contact for internal and external stakeholders regarding on-venue trading governance and control matters.
Required Education & Skills:
Post-Secondary degree in Economics Business Finance or other Commerce related program.
5-10 years of relevant experience in electronic trading risk management or related financial services roles.
Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Experience with change management and the ability to work collaboratively in a cross-group setting.
Ability to manage ambiguity and work independently.
Familiarity with data-driven decision-making processes..
Base Salary Range:
The salary range for this role is $100000 - $120000 CAD (subject to the candidate meeting the specific skills experience education and qualification requirements).

Salaries will vary based on factors such as location skills experience education and qualifications for the role and may include a commission structure. Salaries for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on number of hours regularly worked. For commission roles the salary listed above represents BMO Financial Groups expected target for the first year in this position.
