Who we are looking for
The Data Engineer will focus on utilizing modern data technologies to operationalize and expand the enterprise Data Lake. This role centers on implementing efficient ingestion strategies integrating diverse data sources and ensuring data is structured for accessibility and analysis. The engineer will work across hybrid environmentson-prem and cloudto automate data movement validate data quality and enable analytical teams to derive insights from trusted well-organized datasets. This position requires hands-on technical depth in data ingestion and transformation along with the analytical understanding needed to align data availability with business and reporting needs.

- Location:We are seeking candidates who currently reside in the Seattle WA or Los Angeles CA metropolitan areas.
- Travel: This role requires quarterly travel to our downtown Los Angeles office.

What you get to do
Data Design & Integration
- Co-designdata interfaces and pipelinesin close collaboration with software engineers and technical leads ensuring alignment with application domain models and product roadmaps.
- Build and operatebatch streaming and change data capture (CDC)pipelines from diverse sources (ERP CRM Accounting knowledge repositories and other enterprise systems) into the data lake.
Data Modeling & Enablement
- Model curated data within the lake intodata warehouse structures(e.g. star schemas wide tables semantic layers) optimized forbusiness intelligence (BI)ad-hoc analytics andkey performance indicator (KPI)reporting.
- Publishcertified datasetsandpolicy-aware retrieval assets(tables document embeddings vector indexes) to enableanalyticsAI andretrieval-augmented generation (RAG)use cases.
Data Governance & Quality
- Establish robustdata observabilityandquality checksto ensure reliability and consistency.
- Applygovernance security and compliance controlsacross the data lake and warehouse includingrole-based accessencryptionauditing anddata retention in alignment with applicable regulations.
Operations & Continuous Improvement
- Operate the platform reliably byorchestrating jobsmonitoring pipelines andcontinuously tuning cost and performance.
- Work in accordance withThe Re:Build Way demonstrating collaboration continuous improvement and technical excellence in every aspect of data engineering.
What you bring to the Team
- 5 - 8 yearsof proven experience buildingproduction-grade data systemswith a strong understanding ofcloud-based data lake architecturesanddata warehouses.
- Demonstrated expertise indesigning and operating data pipelines(batch streaming CDC) includingschema evolutionbackfills andperformance tuning.
- Hands-on proficiency withPythonandSQL including experience withdistributed processing frameworks(e.g.Apache Spark) andCI/CDfor data workflows.
- Proven ability to design and implementETL/ELT workflowsanddata modelingtechniques (e.g. star schemas wide tables semantic models).
- Proficiency withcloud data platforms and servicessuch asAWSDatabricks andSnowflake with a focus on scalability and reliability.
- Familiarity withopen table formats(e.g.IcebergDeltaHudi) andbusiness intelligence data modeling.
- Understanding ofdata governancelineage anddata quality frameworksto ensure reliability accuracy and compliance.
- Experience or strong interest in enablingAI/ML use cases(e.g. RAG/search datasets embeddings vector indexes).
- Bachelors degree (BA/BS) inComputer ScienceData ScienceMathematicsAnalytics or a related quantitative field (or equivalent experience).
- Fluency in written and spoken English.

Compensation: Base salary range $135 - $200K depending upon candidate qualifications. Additionally you will have an annual cash bonus and long term incentive.
