Would you like to contribute to increasing our understanding of neuronal calcium signaling in disease Do you want to work with human induced pluripotent stem cells And do you see yourself as a team player who is strong in collaboration If yes we look forward to reading your application to our Postdoc position.
At the Faculty of Engineering and Science Department of Chemistry and Bioscience a position as Postdoc in neuronal calcium signaling is open for appointment from 1st February 2026 or soon hereafter. The position is for 2 years and 8 months.
Your work tasks
Human calmodulin mutations cause cardiac arrhythmia but have recently also been linked to neurodevelopmental disorders. While we have established a good foundation to understand the molecular mechanisms in cardiac arrhythmia we do not know the neuronal pathways. Thus we wish to study the molecular mechanistic impact of calmodulin mutations in neurons.
As our model system we will establish cultured neurons derived from human induced pluripotent stem cells. The cells carrying mutations of interest will either be derived from patients where we have access to some lines or they will be generated with CRISPR. Using the differentiated cells we explore how pathogenic calmodulin mutations impact cellular differentiation development and signaling.
The project is a collaboration between prof. Michael Toft Overgaard and assist. Prof Helene Halkjær Jensen at Aalborg University and prof. Kristine Freude at University of Copenhagen. The position is anchored at Aalborg University. The experimental work will initially primarily be carried out at University of Copenhagen and then transition to collaboration with the candidate we will decide how this will be structured practically.
You will be part of our calcium/calmodulin research team which spans researchers working with genetics protein structure biophysics cell biology and C. elegans nematode addition to working across Aalborg University and University of Copenhagen there are possibilities for shorter stays abroad. There is a potential to integrate student projects.
Your competencies
We are looking for a postdoctoral candidate with a relevant background in e.g. cell biology pharmacology neuroscience calcium signaling or electrophysiology. It is considered an advantage to have experience with induced pluripotent stem cells and/or CRISPR gene editing.
You are motivated and thrive in a dynamic environment. You are self-driven independent and are well-structured in your work. You have a strong sense of responsibility and a good sense of social relations and communication. We work as a team in a very collaborative environment and we put emphasis that our team members understand the importance of driving the team and the laboratory facilities as a shared effort.
You have a solid publication record and excellent oral and written English language skills.
