Job Summary

Job Responsibilities

Assists in the direction coordination and review of all operational activities of the institution.
Assumes responsibilities for the custody security discipline and sanitation of the institution.
Performs the duties of the Warden in the Wardens absence.
Ensures policies and procedures relative to the overall operation of the institution are adhered too.
Prepares (writes) various reports special studies and staff papers including recommendations relating to proposed changes in policies operating procedures rules regulations and laws.
Provides direct supervision for security classification visitation maintenance outside details agriculture programs and training.

Must successfully complete eight (8) weeks of SCDC Basic Training upon hire.

Minimum and Additional Requirements

State of South Carolina Minimum Requirements:

A bachelors degree and supervisory experience in a correctional environment or relevant military experience. Relevant experience may be substituted for the bachelors degree on a year-for-year basis.

SCDC Minimum Requirements:

(Or an acceptable equivalency as approved by the Division of State Human Resource).

Ten (10) years of experience in correctional security military or police work including five (5) years of supervisory experience in a correctional environment.
A degree in criminal justice or a related degree may substitute for up to 1/2 of required supervisory experience (associate 2 years bachelors and above 2 1/2 years).
Must be certified by the SCDC Training Academy and successfully complete the basic supervisory course within six (6) months of entry into the position.
