Job Goals:

The primary goals of the Assistant Supervisor are to:

• On behalf of the VBISD oversee a safe and a high quality bus program for Lawrence Public Schools
• Coordinate the VBISD Bus Training Program that provides initial training remedial training safety programs for school bus drivers as required by the State of Michigan

Qualifications:

Education:

High School Diploma or the equivalency

Certification:

• Valid Commercial Drivers License
• Train the Trainer Certification Michigan Association of Pupil Transportation

Work Experience:

• Minimum of 3 years experience driving a school bus
• Experience in the provision of bus driving training
• Experience in supervising staff is preferred
• Experience scheduling vehicles for a transportation system is preferred

Skills:

• Thorough understanding of the principles and practices involved in school bus operation
• Experience with local geography and traffic conditions
• Expertise in assessing risk conditions training and coaching staff
• Ability to schedule and supervise the work of others
• Ability to drive a school bus route
• Ability to prepare reports manage databases and present information to groups of people
• Ability to work effectively with others including staff community agencies and the public
• Ability to effectively use computer applications such as spreadsheets word processing calendar e-mail and database software
• Demonstrates reliability dependability and physical abilities to perform the duties of the position

• Possess expertise in problem solving conflict resolution and mediation
• Willingness to seek and accept performance feedback

Essential Job Functions:

• Hires trains and supervises drivers for Lawrence Public School transportation
• Determines routes time schedules student eligibility and authorizes bus stops for Lawrence Public Schools in accordance with the District policy
• Drives school bus routes in cases of a staff shortage or emergencies
• Communicates regularly with Lawrence Public schools parents and staff
• Prepares state transportation reports daily records staff time records cost and maintenance records
• Regularly views security camera video to ensure safe student and bus driver behavior
• Works with Supervisor to manage conflict or issues and to determine disciplinary procedures as needed
• Coordinates and provides training and safety classes for bus drivers and bus attendants
• Demonstrates regular and reliable in-person attendance
• Valid drivers license required.
