Job Goals:
The primary goals of the Assistant Supervisor are to:
- On behalf of the VBISD oversee a safe and a high quality bus program for Lawrence Public Schools
- Coordinate the VBISD Bus Training Program that provides initial training remedial training safety programs for school bus drivers as required by the State of Michigan
Qualifications:
Education:
High School Diploma or the equivalency
Certification:
- Valid Commercial Drivers License
- Train the Trainer Certification Michigan Association of Pupil Transportation
Work Experience:
- Minimum of 3 years experience driving a school bus
- Experience in the provision of bus driving training
- Experience in supervising staff is preferred
- Experience scheduling vehicles for a transportation system is preferred
Skills:
- Thorough understanding of the principles and practices involved in school bus operation
- Experience with local geography and traffic conditions
- Expertise in assessing risk conditions training and coaching staff
- Ability to schedule and supervise the work of others
- Ability to drive a school bus route
- Ability to prepare reports manage databases and present information to groups of people
- Ability to work effectively with others including staff community agencies and the public
- Ability to effectively use computer applications such as spreadsheets word processing calendar e-mail and database software
- Demonstrates reliability dependability and physical abilities to perform the duties of the position
- Possess expertise in problem solving conflict resolution and mediation
- Willingness to seek and accept performance feedback
Essential Job Functions:
- Hires trains and supervises drivers for Lawrence Public School transportation
- Determines routes time schedules student eligibility and authorizes bus stops for Lawrence Public Schools in accordance with the District policy
- Drives school bus routes in cases of a staff shortage or emergencies
- Communicates regularly with Lawrence Public schools parents and staff
- Prepares state transportation reports daily records staff time records cost and maintenance records
- Regularly views security camera video to ensure safe student and bus driver behavior
- Works with Supervisor to manage conflict or issues and to determine disciplinary procedures as needed
- Coordinates and provides training and safety classes for bus drivers and bus attendants
- Demonstrates regular and reliable in-person attendance
- Valid drivers license required.
