Position Summary

The Instructor Disability Studiesplays a key role in supporting learners academic and professional growth by delivering high-quality instruction and contributing to program development within the Disability Studies program School of Community Studies.

Reporting to the Association Dean School of Community Studies this position is responsible for teaching assigned courses supporting learner success and engaging with community and industry partners to strengthen the programs impact and relevance.


Key Responsibilities

Provide Quality Instruction

  • Deliver assigned courses using effective inclusive and learner-centered instructional strategies.
  • Develop lesson plans and update course materials guides and rubrics in collaboration with the Program Chair.
  • Evaluate learner performance on an ongoing basis providing timely feedback and maintaining accurate academic records.
  • Contribute to curriculum development and ensure alignment with college and industry standards.


Foster a Positive Learning Experience

  • Support learners in achieving academic success by addressing issues related to attendance performance or conduct.
  • Identify learner needs and refer to institutional supports such as tutoring or counselling when appropriate.
  • Ensure accommodation requirements are met in accordance with accessibility policies.
  • Participate in events that promote learner engagement and success (e.g. orientation graduation awards).


Build Relationships and Promote the Program

  • Maintain currency in best practices trends and research within Disability Studies and related fields.
  • Engage with community agencies employers and advisory committees to enhance program relevance and learner opportunities.
  • Represent the program and college at recruitment and community events.
  • Support articulation and transfer processes as required.


Other Responsibilities

  • Adhere to all College policies and procedures.
  • Participate in ongoing professional development including required college systems and teaching certifications.
  • Contribute to applied research initiatives and other projects that enhance the learner and program experience.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Program Chair or Dean.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in Disability Studies or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant industry experience.
  • Teaching experience in a post-secondary or professional training environment.
  • Direct industry-related experience working with individuals with disabilities.
  • Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.
  • Police Information Check with Vulnerable Sector Clearance required prior to employment.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Masters degreein a related field.
  • Experience in Adult Education
  • Established industry and community relationshipsin the field of disability services.


This opening is a continuous/temporary/project/casual Faculty position.
