Job Summary

These duties are to be performed in a highly confidential manner in accordance with the mission values and behaviors of Insight Hospital and Medical Center. Position Summary:
The Part-Time EMG Technician performs neurodiagnostic testing procedures primarily Electromyography (EMG) and Nerve Conduction Studies (NCS) under the supervision of a physician or neurologist. The technician is responsible for preparing patients performing accurate and high-quality studies maintaining equipment and ensuring patient comfort and safety throughout the procedure.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Prepare patients for EMG and NCS procedures explaining the process and answering questions to ensure comfort and understanding.
  • Accurately perform nerve conduction studies in accordance with established clinical protocols and physician directives.
  • Assist the physician during EMG testing by operating equipment and monitoring data.
  • Ensure all recordings are of diagnostic quality and properly labeled and stored in the EMR system.
  • Maintain equipment cleanliness calibration and readiness for use.
  • Record and verify patient information test results and documentation in compliance with HIPAA and institutional standards.
  • Maintain a professional compassionate and patient-centered approach.
  • Follow safety and infection control policies at all times.
  • Participate in ongoing education and training to maintain competency and stay current with best practices.
Qualifications:
Required:
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Completion of a formal training program in neurodiagnostic technology or equivalent on-the-job training.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in performing Nerve Conduction Studies (NCS).
  • Basic knowledge of neuroanatomy electrophysiology and medical terminology.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
Preferred:
  • Certification by AAET (American Association of Electrodiagnostic Technologists) ABRET or equivalent.
  • Prior experience in a neurology or electrodiagnostic lab setting.
  • CPR/BLS certification.
Working Conditions:
  • Clinical or outpatient setting.
  • Requires prolonged standing manual dexterity and attention to detail.
  • May involve exposure to patients with infectious diseases (standard precautions apply).
