Organizational Relationship Or Line of Authority:
Directly responsible to the High School and Middle School Principals for matters pertaining to the building and to the Superintendent or designee for district matters
Statement of Duties:
- Administers a program of guidance services for all students enrolled grades 6-12 (75% of time focused on the high school).
- Works with staff to familiarize them with the general range of services available to support positive student behavior and performance.
- Works with staff to coordinate the school district and community resources in assisting students to address problems impacting their academic performance.
- Oversees the coordination of AP assessments and other testing as determined by the building principal.
- Ensures that the guidance department creates and monitors student Educational Performance Plans that meet requirements for graduation.
- Oversees the identification of students for the credit recovery program.
- Supervises the selection of courses registration and program adjustments for students in grade 6-12.
- Works with the assistant principals and district data personnel to review and ensure accurate student data base and accurate transcripts.
- Works with the Assistant Principals to implement a formal orientation/transition program for incoming freshmen.
- Collaborates with the Curriculum and Career Specialists on expand school-based and work-based learning experiences.
- Coordinates and oversees the college orientation selection financial aid and scholarship processes including parent and student information sessions
- Supervises and evaluates guidance counselors and other educators as assigned according to performance evaluation process.
- Oversees District Career Resource Center and assists counselors teachers and pupils in this use.
- Works with assistant principals to ensure that the student support teams are implemented to address specialized student needs.
- Supervises the maintenance of student records including new enrollments and student transfers & withdrawals and graduate records as mandated by the student-records legislation.
- Oversees implementation & alignment of guidance curriculum for Career Readiness and Pathways Grades 6-12.
- Verifies academic records for graduation requirements as per MASS Core and scholarship eligibility.
- Assists the assistant principals in the development of the master schedule student schedules and teacher schedules.
- Prepares the Guidance budget 6-12.
Qualifications:
- DESE licensed as a Supervisor/Director and Guidance Counselor in Massachusetts.
- Minimum of a Masters Degree in the field of Guidance or related area.
- Administrative experience preferred.
- Can demonstrate a minimum of five (5) years successful experience in the field of guidance or related field at the secondary level.
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent of Schools may find appropriate and acceptable.
