Job Summary

This is a tenure-track faculty position at the Assistant Professor level in the Department of Physics. The appointee is expected to establish a vigorous externally funded research program publish in peer-reviewed journals and teach effectively across the physics curriculum. Additional responsibilities include service to the department university and discipline. The successful candidate will also involve students in research. Preference will be given to candidates who have postdoctoral experience and whose research expertise can be leveraged towards advanced courses on Computational Physics and Data Science.

Essential Job Functions

Implement effective teaching strategies:
    • Teach physics courses as assigned.
    • Develop course materials and contribute to curriculum development.
Maintain an active research agenda that includes publication of research papers in peer-reviewed journals and/or submission of research grants:
    • Conduct cutting edge research on any area of physics.
    • Publish findings in peer-reviewed journals and present at professional conferences.
    • Supervise and mentor students.
    • Secure external funding through grants to support research initiatives.
Actively participate in academic service at the department college and university levels:
    • Serve the department college and university as needed.
    • Assist in recruitment and retention of physics students.
    • Contribute to the academic and professional community through participation in relevant organizations and initiatives.

Minimum and Desired Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:
    • PhD in Physics
    • An established record of publications in peer-reviewed scientific journals that are listed by the Web of Science.
Desired Qualifications:
    • Research background that can be leveraged towards advanced courses on Computational Physics and Data Science.
    • Postdoctoral experience.
    • Evidence of strong potential to secure external research funding.
    • Evidence of strong potential to mentor students on research.
    • Evidence of strong potential to teach high-quality courses across the physics curriculum.
    • Experience in presenting research results at high-profile conferences.

Physical Requirements:Able to lift 25 lbs and be able to perform a variety of physical tasks including lifting bending stooping squatting stair climbing and walking between buildings.

Job Conditions:
    • Standard academic work schedule with occasional evening or weekend responsibilities to meet research teaching service or administrative deadlines.
    • Position requires on-campus teaching with potential remote collaboration for research activities.
