Job Summary
ConocoPhillips global portfolio of LNG assets includes ownership in multiple LNG JV projects with long term sales to global markets over seven (7) MTPA equity offtake commitment from the Americas and West Africa and regasification capacity in NW Europe.
The Global LNG team is tasked to optimize our global equity LNG portfolio and support our Joint Venture projects. Our core activities include developing new markets to support current and future LNG developments sourcing LNG supplies originating receiving terminal usage rights and term sales trading short term and spot cargoes. We also market certain excess JV volumes provide negotiation support as well as second senior staff into those addition the team provides LNG related decision support to our corporate headquarters in Houston and global business units involved in the LNG value chain.
Position Overview
The LNG Ship Operator is responsible for the safe efficient and commercially optimized execution of LNG voyages. This role manages the day-to-day operations of time-chartered and spot LNG carriers ensuring compliance with contractual obligations regulatory standards and company policies. The operator serves as the key liaison between internal stakeholders and external partners including shipowners terminals brokers and port agents.
This position requires a confident and capable leader who can take ownership of complex operations make sound decisions under pressure and guide others with clarity and authority. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong leadership skills a proactive mindset and the ability to influence outcomes across diverse teams and stakeholders.
Primary Role Objectives:
Voyage Management
- Ensure successful voyage execution. This includes development and issuance of voyage orders daily voyage status and reporting bunker and fuel planning effective communications with service providers agent nomination voyage documentation management IMOS data integrity IMOS data integrity timely completion of voyage cost allocations (VCAs) process hire freight and port cost invoices capture and allocate off-hire events voyage file management incident reporting and monitoring and Owner performance management.
- Coordinate with terminals and port agents to manage berthing schedules cargo documentation and operational readiness.
- Examine vessel routing based on weather fuel efficiency cargo requirements and geopolitical considerations to ensure safe and cost-effective LNG delivery.
- Demonstrate in-depth working knowledge of IMOS and related system integrations to ensure accurate voyage planning execution and reporting across commercial and operational workflows.
- Plan and execute LNG and marine fuel bunkering operations in coordination with suppliers and vessel masters.
- Support any claims and claim related calculations.
- Collaborate with finance and chartering teams to ensure accurate financial reporting.
LNG-Specific Operations
- Support LNG cargo handling procedures including cooldown loading discharge operations custody transfer and measurement protocols.
- Monitor and report on LNG tank pressures temperatures and reliquefaction system performance.
- Ensure vessels comply with LNG terminal compatibility requirements and vetting standards.
- Monitor BOG and fuel consumption to optimize routing to minimize costs and emissions.
Compliance & Risk Management
- Ensure adherence to international regulations including IGF Code IGC Code MARPOL and OCIMF standards.
- Maintain awareness of geopolitical and weather-related risks affecting LNG trade routes.
- Champion environmental compliance by ensuring all voyages meet or exceed emissions standards waste management protocols and sustainability targets.
- Ensure full alignment with marine assurance requirements including vetting terminal compatibility and adherence to internal and external safety and quality standards.
Stakeholder Engagement
- Interface with LNG trading desks charterers marine assurance and technical teams.
- Develop and maintain relationships with Masters third parties including terminals agents owners and suppliers to ensure ConocoPhillips general interests are represented and marine operations activities can be completed with maximum efficiency and minimal disruption.
- Accountable for global ships agent program performance management accurate funding projections accurate disbursement account closure including annual performance and metrics review.
Teamwork Leadership and Collaboration
- Develop a collaborative work environment by actively engaging with cross-functional teams including chartering trading technical and assurance groups.
- Share operational insights and lessons learned to improve team performance and voyage execution.
- Support peers during high-volume periods and contribute to a culture of mutual respect accountability and continuous improvement.
- Actively participate in onboarding and mentoring of new team members sharing operational knowledge and best practices to accelerate their development and integration.
- Lead by example and provide clear direction guidance and support to junior staff and cross-functional partners.
Competency Requirements
Basic/Required:
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United Kingdom
- 5 or more years of experience in LNG vessel operations; strong candidate with LPG/clean tanker operations plus deep LNG exposure will be considered
- Bachelors degree or higher in Maritime Studies Engineering Supply Chain other related field or equivalent experience
- Strong understanding of LNG carrier systems cargo handling and voyage planning
- Ability to provide 24/7 support for global customers in differing time zones including during times while out of the office (e.g. business travel vacation)
- Willing and able (with or without reasonable accommodations) to travel up to 25% of the time on a yearly basis
Preferred:
- Seagoing experience as an officer onboard an LNG/LPG vessel or similar vessel
- Familiarity with LNG charterparty terms and commercial operations
- Experience with LNG terminal operations and compatibility assessments
- Advanced knowledge of the marine transportation business including contracting marine logistics and coordination and demurrage processes
- Highly developed written and communication skills fluent in English
- Excellent communication coordination and leadership skills
- Drive innovation and develop robust processes to improve business efficiency
- Accountability. Takes ownership of actions and follows through on commitments
