About the Job:

Taco Bell is seeking a Packaging Engineer Intern (6-Month Rotation Full-Time Coverage)based in Irvine CA. This hybrid rolerequires 34 days onsite weekly with the remainder remote. The intern will temporarily cover responsibilities for a full-time Packaging Engineer on maternity leave contributing to active projects and supporting packaging innovation across the brand.

To succeed in this role candidates should ideally have prior internship experienceor hands-on exposureto packaging development materials and manufacturing processes (e.g. flexible papers films corrugated paper paperboard plastic containers thermoforming etc.).

The Packaging Engineer Intern will report to the Associate Manager Global Packaging. This hands-on role supports projects that deliver the next generation of sustainable packaging to our system. It requires creative thinking rapid prototyping and testing balanced with a pragmatic results-orientedfocuson business goals. The intern will collaborate with cross-functional teams including Supply Chain Marketing Product Development Public Relations Operations and Quality Assurance.

6-month internship opportunity for our packaging team starting in January/February 2026.

Pay: $25 hourly/ plus a $1200/ month stipend (IF relocation is needed).

What you get to do:

  • Support technical packaging development for consumer-facing packaging across the brand
  • Contribute to sustainability initiativesand commitments
  • Expand knowledge of materials substrates project management and technical packaging applications
  • Assist in packaging development cost savings and innovation from ideation to launch
  • Coordinate and executepackaging product cuttings testing and specification development
  • Provide technical support to field operators and international markets on packaging inquiries
  • Collaborate with vendors and suppliersto evaluate packaging feasibility and performance
  • Assist in documentation and specification updates to ensure compliance and traceability

Must-haves:

  • Pursuing Bachelor of Science in Packaging Engineering preferred or Mechanical Engineering
  • 3 months 1 year of packing experience preferred
  • Familiarity with packaging materials and manufacturing processes (e.g. flexible films corrugated paperboard thermoforming)
  • Strong problem-solving skills and self-motivation
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to translate technical concepts for cross-functional teams

Pluses:

  • Experience supporting packaging development in a consumer-facing brandor foodservice environment
  • Basic knowledge of restaurant/retail operations engineering food processing or manufacturing
  • Experience with ArtiosCADand/or AutoCAD
  • Proficiency in Exceland LCA tools
  • Exposure to sustainability frameworks or legislation(e.g. SB 54 EPR laws)
