Job Summary:

Resident Managers provide outstanding customer service to residents primarily when the Community Center and Apartment Facilities Offices are closed. Resident Managers live in the community and serve on-call for residents after hours responding to questions concerns and emergencies.

Resident Managers demonstrate Housings core value of Care for residents by responding to all calls usually in person to assess situations educate residents mediate issues and solve the residents issue in a timely manner. Resident Managers also develop community by welcoming residents to the community; creating implementing and assisting with events for residents; mediating conflicts among neighbors; and educating residents on community resources.

Work Schedule:

  • The primary schedule for this position is 8 hours per week.
  • Resident Managers work primarily during evening hours.
  • Resident Managers are on-call approximately 4 times per month. On call shifts are as follows: Monday-Friday: 5:30pm-8:00am and Weekends & Holidays: 24 hours typically for two days at a time.
  • Resident Managers are expected to be on-call during academic break periods weekends holidays after office hours and as needed.
  • Resident Managers also have meetings and administrative tasks as operational need requires.

Key Job Responsibilities:

  • Schedules logistics secures resources and staff and markets resident events and programs
  • Identifies and prioritizes maintenance needs or requests in housing units according to established policies and procedures
  • Serves as an initial point of contact for resident support providing mediation and resolution of personnel and facility issues including after hours
  • Develops a sense of community among residents of University Apartments

University Apartments is a department within the Division of University Housing at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. As a student service organization University Apartments provides on-campus housing programs and services for our residents. Eagles Wing is a licensed and nationally accredited childcare center located in the University Apartments Community Center. Eagles Wing provides care to children both in the University Apartments community as well as the general public.

The services at University Apartments actively support the mission of the University while also meeting the needs of students families and guests by fostering the development of a residential community. The University Apartments staff provides these services to a community of approximately 3000 residents in 1240 apartments on 83 acres who are primarily graduate students staff post-docs and their families; many of whom are programs and services sponsored by University Apartments are funded through rent or user fees.

Compensation:

This is a part-time 20% position with a starting hourly wage of $19.83. Compensation package includes an unfurnished 2 bedroom apartment 1 free parking space and access to shared/complimentary laundry facilities

Required Qualifications:

  • Applicants must be eligible to live in University Apartments and eligible to work in the U.S.
    • Successfully obtaining the Resident Manager position cannot be the employment qualification that makes an applicant eligible to live in University Apartments.
    • Current University Apartments residents who are unaffiliated spouses or partners of UW-Madison students faculty or staff are eligible to apply for this position.
  • To be eligible to live in University Apartments you must fit into one of the following categories:
    • Undergraduate students living with their family: must carry a minimum of 6 credits per semester for an academic year.
    • Graduate students must carry a minimum of 2 credits per semester for an academic year. If a student is a dissertator 3 credits per semester for an academic year are required.
    • Faculty academic staff university staff or post-doctoral scholars/trainees and honorary associate fellows.
  • Drivers License Valid License Which Meets UW Risk Management Standards required

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in student affairs residence life or counseling strongly preferred including but not limited to mediation cross-cultural communication and programming.
  • Experience interacting with an international population preferred.
  • Experience with University Apartments or experience within an apartment community on another university campus preferred
