Description of the Position:

Reporting to the Director of Finance the Associate Director Accounting oversees the team responsible for all accounting services and fund accounting functions of SickKids Foundation ensuring the integrity of the financial records including endowment entries. The Associate Director will act as an expert resource for the Foundation tax receipting processes as well as lead the Foundations year end audit process. This role is part of the Finance leadership team leading an overall team of three employees with two direct reports and one indirect report.

You Will:

  • Oversee all accounting services and fund accounting functions at SickKids Foundation;
  • Manage the Foundations Procurement Policy and Process to reflect best practices and ensure compliance;
  • Provide excellent stakeholder business partner support acting as a resource for tax receipting accounting and other tax/finance related policies;
  • Oversee the maintenance and reporting on the Foundations investment;
  • Ensure SickKids Foundation compliance with CRA rules and regulations;
  • Lead the year-end audit process;
  • Provide oversight to SickKids Foundations Funding Enhancement Initiative (FEI) policy and process;
  • Lead the creation of SickKids Foundations quarterly financial statements and endowment financial reports overseeing the controls and integrity of all financial records;
  • Oversee the financial records (bank deposits posting revenue journal entries etc.) tax receipting and auditing of SickKids Charitable Giving Fund;
  • Oversee the completion of accounts payable and compliance with the Foundations procurement policy.

Qualifications:

While we know that for any job posting no one candidate will possess the qualifications being sought in equal measure below is an outline of the qualifications we believe are important for a candidate to bring to the position or for the successful candidate to develop while in the role:

  • An individual with 7-10 years of progressive accounting and supervisory experience;
  • Preferably someone with a professional accounting designation (e.g. CPA) and a university degree in Accounting and Management;
  • Someone with an advanced understanding of charitable accounting restricted fund accounting including endowment accounting - particularly in environments of complex fund structures;
  • Experienced with charitable sector accounting systems and Fundriver preferred but not required;
  • Experience in implementing new accounting systems desirable;
  • Advanced technical skills with Microsoft Office (Excel Word and Powerpoint);
  • A passionate and results driven business partner who aligns with the organizations mission is motivated by contributing to its success and inspires others through enthusiasm collaboration and open dialogue;
  • A problem solver with exceptional critical thinking skills required to devise pragmatic and innovative solutions to financial/business challenges and situations;
  • Someone with exceptional interpersonal and communication skills;
  • Able to multi-task and constantly reprioritize work in a complex service-oriented environment;
  • An experienced leader with experience overseeing a team of accounting professionals;
  • Organized detail-oriented with exceptional follow-through.

Total Compensation Package:

Hiring Salary Range: $99297 $124121; with the ability to progress to a maximum of $142739. To ensure fair and equitable pay at SickKids Foundation placement on the salary range will be based on your years of experience skills and qualifications relevant to the Director Innovation & Process Improvement.
