This is an exciting opportunity to join the UW-Madison Department of Curriculum & Instruction as a teaching faculty member in an innovative joint ESL/Secondary Masters program for teacher certification. The Department of Curriculum & Instruction is home to several research-based teacher certification programs. These programs are designed around practice-based field experiences in which students observe assist and teach in both classrooms and out-of-school educational programs as they work toward earning their initial educator licenses. We are seeking a teaching faculty colleague who will contribute to teacher education in social studies while also providing leadership in field coordination recruitment and program development within the broader secondary teacher education program.
The role involves teaching social studies education courses within the content pedagogical series and leading fieldwork coordination including supervising teacher candidates and mentoring university supervisors. Responsibilities include supporting recruitment admissions and advising to attract a broad range of candidates building relationships with partner schools and mentor teachers and managing candidate progress from entry to certification. Additionally the position requires leadership in program planning and collaboration across content areas to enhance the secondary teacher education program.
Potential duties may include contributing to ESL course facilitation and field supervision teaching additional assigned courses supporting program administration through tasks like scholarship selection and data reporting and participating in departmental initiatives aimed at strengthening teacher education across disciplines.
This position is a 75-100% FTE position.

Minimum: $78000.00 annually

Minimum of three years experience teaching social studies at the secondary level (grades 4-12).
Excellent interpersonal teamwork written and oral communication skills and an exceptional record of classroom instruction.
A strong commitment to recognizing and valuing the strengths and experiences of all learners and to using research-informed teaching practices that support meaningful and effective learning for every student is required
Experience and expertise in teacher education at the university level teacher coaching mentoring or professional learning.
Certification and experience in working with English Language Learners including curricular innovation in ESL methods that can further enhance our secondary teacher certification program.
Masters degree in social studies education or similar area is required with extensive experience in 4-12 teaching and/or teacher education
Ph.D or ABD is preferred
