About the job;
Advantra is partnering with a Series A AI SaaS startup in New York to hire a Founding Staff ML / AI Engineer to build core AI and machine learning systems for brands in retail.
About the role:
You will own the full AI/ML lifecycle and help define the companys AI strategy while building models and systems that automate and optimize retail operations.
Responsibilities:
- Develop agentic systems to retrieve and process data from legacy systems.
- Leverage NLP and LLMs to understand and extract insights from complex documents.
- Build predictive models for brand sales using advanced machine learning techniques.
- Detect anomalies in sales data to improve retail performance.
- Recommend optimal promotions for brands at retailers based on data analysis.
- Own end-to-end AI/ML system design deployment and monitoring in production.
- Collaborate with CTO and CEO to define technical and product strategy.
- Continuously improve model performance and system reliability.
- Partner with product and engineering teams to integrate AI/ML into user-facing tools.
Core requirements:
- 5 years of applied AI/ML experience ideally in a startup environment.
Experience fine-tuning LLMs such as Llama or GPT. - Proven ability to design AI prompt workflows.
- Strong product mindset with experience applying AI to real-world problems.
- Background in ML systems design and engineering best practices.
- Experience with data preprocessing feature engineering and model evaluation.
- Proficiency in Python and standard ML frameworks (PyTorch TensorFlow or similar).
- Familiarity with cloud-based ML deployment and monitoring tools.
- Ability to work independently and take ownership of complex projects.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Nice to have:
- Experience with agentic or autonomous AI systems.
- Knowledge of retail or CPG domain data.
- Familiarity with recommendation engines or sales optimization models.
- Experience with large-scale data pipelines and ETL processes.
- Exposure to real-time AI/ML inference systems.
