Advantra is partnering with a seed stage aerospace and defense software startup in Toronto to hire a Founding Software Engineer to build and maintain web and backend applications used by manufacturers.

About the role

The Founding Software Engineer will own software deployed to customers and contribute across the stack. You will work on a application and Python/Golang serverless functions triage production issues and turn user feedback into features. The role includes collaborating with the founding team to shape product direction and engineering culture while ensuring reliability scalability and usability of deployed systems.

Responsibilities

Design build and maintain customer-facing web applications using React and TypeScript.
Develop backend services in Python and Golang.
Triage production issues and perform root cause analysis.
Translate user feedback into functional software features.
Collaborate with product and customer success teams to deliver updates.
Ensure systems are scalable reliable and maintainable.
Write tested and documented code.
Participate in roadmap planning and feature prioritization.
Support users during feature rollout and issue resolution.

Core requirements

At least 5 years of professional software engineering experience.
At least 5 years of experience with JavaScript or TypeScript in production systems.
Experience building web applications using React.
Experience building scalable and responsive web interfaces.
Ability to translate user needs into technical solutions.
Experience with end-to-end feature ownership from design to deployment.
Canadian citizen or permanent resident eligible under Controlled Goods Program (CGP).
Comfortable working in a fast-paced early-stage startup environment.
Experience debugging and triaging production issues.
Strong collaboration and communication skills.

Nice to have

Experience with Python or Golang backend development.
Familiarity with AWS including GovCloud.
Knowledge of relational databases especially Postgres.
Experience writing test suites with Jest or Playwright.
Exposure to large language models or enterprise software features.

Compensation

105000 to 165000 CAD per year.
