Position: Deputy Program Manager - Manufacturing Focus
Location: Palmdale CA
Position Overview
The ideal candidate brings strong familiarities in rail and demonstrates a high-level understanding on how this role directly supports internal and external coordination. This position may also substitute for the key absent roles in the department. As a leader the Deputy Program Manager can hire and develop talent and provide informal guidance to project team members.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure that the manufacturing phase project moves forward on time safely within budget.
- Develop and manage project plans schedules budgets risks and deliverables.
- Collaborate with Production Quality Engineering Finance Purchasing and Facility Management.
- Provide support in assembling testing and training for rail vehicle assembly and facility improvement.
- Develop project budgets and schedules in Microsoft Excel ERP software or project management software.
- Coordinate and facilitate meetings for scope clarification changes in scope schedule and action items.
- Prepare and present weekly monthly and quarterly deliverables to internal and external stakeholders.
- Respond to clients inquiries on project progress.
- Clearly communicate project responsibilities and translate project objectives into actionable tasks so all stakeholders are aligned on project goals.
- Proactively analyze situations and implement resolutions to navigate challenging situations and forward progress.
- Act as a liaison and resolve conflicts with customer vendors and internal departments.
- Compile track and manage documentation including change orders reports and presentations.
- Assist with other programs in different locations on an as needed basis.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in Engineering.
- 5 years of complex project management experience; Experience developing timelines and track critical path items at least for one project phase.
- 2 years of experience in mechanical electrical or systems engineering.
- Knowledge of Rolling Stock and its operation test and maintenance.
- Must be able to communicate complex technical concepts in simple terms to non-technical audiences.
- Proactive problem solver on any issue both technical and non-technical.
- Superior interpersonal organizational verbal and written communication skills.
- Proven experience in leading negotiations and balancing requirements and deadlines.
- Proven ability to work collaboratively to bring about change effectively.
- Experience as a team leader with a strong determination to complete projects which span several years.
- Ability to teach others and must be able to assist teams with abstract technology concepts.
- Willingness to travel domestically and internationally.
Project management or process improvement certificates such as PMP or Six Sigma a plus
