Job Summary

The Suffolk County Department of Law is seeking to fill a Courier role.

An employee in this class performs responsible duties involving transport of a variety of items. The incumbent is responsible for associated clerical tasks various other deliveries mail delivery and routine vehicle maintenance.

SHIFT:
9:00 a.m. 5:30 p.m. (first year) after one year 9:00 a.m. 5:00 p.m.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for the service of checks and subpoenas to person involved in cases being handled by our Family Court Bureau.

  • Delivers mail and records to our Central Islip and Riverhead offices and to other county agencies.

  • Filing of legal documents in courts in Riverhead and Central Islip.

  • Picks up and drops off Archive boxes and other materials in Westhampton.

  • Delivers legal documents to law firms in Suffolk County and Nassau County.

  • Delivers medical records to doctors offices.

  • Performs receptionist duties and clerical tasks such as photocopying archiving answering phones and other tasks as needed.

  • Responsible for operating and maintaining assigned county vehicles and help to maintain other county vehicles assigned to the department.

Starting Salary: $36096

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Graduation from a standard senior high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma

AND EITHER

  • Two (2) years of driving experience as a messenger courier or other paid driver responsible for the transport of passengers or materials;

OR

  • Two (2) years of experience as a Driver Messenger.

Special Requirements:

Candidates must possess the appropriate New York State drivers license and maintain such license through employment in this title.
