Job Summary

PsiQuantumsmission is to build the first useful quantum computersmachines capable of delivering the breakthroughs the field has long promised. Since our founding in 2016 our singular focus has been to build and deploy million-qubit fault-tolerant quantum systems.

Quantum computers harness the laws of quantum mechanics to solve problems that even the most advanced supercomputers or AI systems will never reach. Their impact will span energy pharmaceuticals finance agriculture transportation materials and other foundational industries.

Our architecture and approachisbased on silicon photonics. Byleveragingthe advanced semiconductor manufacturing industryincluding partners like GlobalFoundrieswe use the same high-volume processes that already produce billions of chips for telecom and consumer electronics. Photonics offers natural advantages for scale: photonsdontfeel heat are immune to electromagnetic interference and integrate with existing cryogenic cooling and standard fiber-optic infrastructure.

In 2024PsiQuantumannounced government-funded projects to support the build-out of our first utility-scale quantum computers in Brisbane Australia and Chicago Illinois. These initiatives reflect a growing recognition that quantum computing will be strategically and economically definingand that now is the time to scale.

PsiQuantumalso develops the algorithms and software needed to make these systems commercially valuable. Our application software and industry teams work directly with leading Fortune 500 companiesincluding Lockheed Martin Mercedes-Benz Boehringer Ingelheim and Mitsubishi Chemicalto prepare quantum solutions for real-world impact.

Quantum computing is not an extension of classical computing. Itrepresentsa fundamental shiftand a path to mastering challenges that cannot besolvedany other way. The potential is enormous and we have a clearpathto make it real.

Job Summary:

We are seeking a Manufacturing Engineer to support the transition of advanced manufacturing processes from development into scalable production. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with vacuum process tool development precision polishing process control and data-driven manufacturing optimization. This role will be based between our Milpitas and Palo Alto CA facilities and will interface closely with R&D equipment engineering and operations teams to establish robust high-yield manufacturing processes.

Responsibilities:

Process Development & Transfer

  • Develop and optimize manufacturing processes for precision fabrication assembly and finishing operations.
  • Translate R&D processes into stable repeatable production methods.
  • Define process parameters tolerances and metrology requirements for key manufacturing steps.

Vacuum Tool Development & Support

  • Collaborate with equipment engineers to specify validate and qualify vacuum-based process tools and subsystems.
  • Support tool commissioning maintenance plans and root cause investigations for process issues.

Statistical Process Control (SPC)

  • Implement data-driven process control methods and establish key performance metrics.
  • Develop statistical sampling plans to ensure product quality and process stability.
  • Analyze process data to identify trends deviations and opportunities for improvement.

Process & Equipment Ownership

  • Own end-to-end performance metrics for assigned tools and processes (uptime yield throughput).
  • Optimize production line layout for efficiency ergonomics and throughput.
  • Conduct time studies and capacity analyses to support process balancing and staffing models.
  • Author and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs) work instructions and process documentation.
  • Train operations and maintenance personnel in tool operation and best practices.

Continuous Improvement & Yield Enhancement

  • Drive root-cause analysis and corrective actions for process deviations or yield losses.
  • Implement Design of Experiments (DOE) and Failure Mode & Effects Analysis (FMEA) for process optimization.
  • Partner cross-functionally with R&D and Quality to drive manufacturability and design improvements.

Experience/Qualifications:

Required:

  • B.S. or M.S. in Manufacturing Engineering Mechanical Engineering Materials Science or related field.
  • 3 years of experience in semiconductor precision optics or advanced manufacturing environment.
  • Experience with vacuum systems leak checking and process tool qualification.
  • Experience with line layout optimization workflow design or lean manufacturing principles.
  • Proficiency conducting time studies and productivity analyses.
  • Proficiency with SPC DOE and data analysis tools (e.g. JMP Minitab Python or similar).
  • Strong understanding of precision mechanical assembly and metrology principles.

**Preferred:**

  • Experience with precision polishing of semiconductor or optical surfaces.
  • Experience transferring processes from development to high-volume manufacturing.
  • Working knowledge of cleanroom operations and contamination control.
  • Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.
