East Texas A&M University a student-ready Doctoral University classified as R2: High Research Activity by the Carnegie Classification invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Psychology to begin Fall 2026.
The Department of Psychology and Special Education seeks a scholar who demonstrates potential for impactful research effective and comprehensive teaching at both undergraduate and graduate levels and meaningful service to the department university and profession. Area of interest/research is open. The preferred candidate would be able to teach courses related to Abnormal Psychology Personality Psychology and Health Psychology.
The position will primarily serve the undergraduate and graduate programs in Psychology but may contribute to other courses in the Department of Psychology and Special Education.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Research
Develop and sustain a productive program of experimental research leading to peer-reviewed publications conference presentations and other scholarly contributions
Seek external funding to support research as appropriate to the discipline
Direct and serve on doctoral dissertation committees
Mentor and engage both graduate and undergraduate students in research
Create opportunities for student involvement in scholarly activities
Teaching
Provide teaching excellence to graduate and undergraduate students in Psychology and related programs
Teach graduate and undergraduate courses across multiple delivery formats (online and on-campus)
Contribute to the departments core curriculum and develop courses in area(s) of expertise particularly in Experimental Psychology Statistics and Research Methods and Physiological Psychology
Supervise and mentor doctoral students including guidance on dissertations and research projects
Demonstrate commitment to effective comprehensive and innovative pedagogy
Advise students at the undergraduate and graduate levels
Service
Participate in departmental college and university committees and governance
Contribute to the professional community through activities such as peer review conference participation and organizational service
Work collaboratively with faculty and staff to implement departmental programs
Engage in outreach or community engagement consistent with the mission of the university
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Education: Ph.D. in Psychology by Fall 2026.
Experience / Knowledge / Skills: Evidence of scholarly productivity and potential for continued research productivity. Evidence of effective teaching or teaching potential at the university level.
Ability to: Ability to multi-task work well as part of a team.
Licensing/Professional Certifications:
N/A
PREFERRED EDUCATION / SKILLS/ EXPERIENCE:
Commitment to training doctoral-level experimental psychology students
Record of peer-reviewed publications or other scholarly outputs
University teaching experience including graduate-level instruction
Online teaching experience
Experience mentoring graduate and/or undergraduate students in research
Experience with grant writing or external funding
Ability to work cooperatively in a multidisciplinary setting
Demonstrated ability to contribute to curriculum development in abnormal personality and health psychology
SUPERVISION OF OTHERS:
Supervision of graduate assistants practicum students and student interns.
