Description
This position is responsible for designing and implementing a career development program to help students elevate their professional skills with the goal of increasing students successful transition to meaningful work. This individual is responsible for marketing and maintaining student use of career software platforms as well as designing pathways to guide students of all academic levels in ongoing career and professional development. Additional duties include creating and delivering programming focused on all aspects of career development.
*Final title and placement on salary scale will be determined by the selected candidates qualifications.
Essential Job Duties
- Advise counsel and assist students/alumni/ae in developing successful individual career plans;
- Design and market pathways to guide students in ongoing career and professional development utilizing current software;
- Assist students with career exploration and job search strategies including administration and interpretation of appropriate assessment instruments;
- Develop and implement professional development programs and workshops;
- Develop partnerships with campus departments student groups etc. to co-sponsor programming;
- Provide professional development programs and workshops upon request and prepare/distribute related materials in coordination with other unit staff;
- Assist with content creation execution and monitoring of social media accounts to enhance student engagement;
- Advise students on developing career goals and/or preparation for graduate/professional schools;
- Implement maintain and market campus wide use of AI resume review system;
- Assist with résumé writing cover letter preparation and interview preparation;
- Review provide guidance with approve and upload cover letters and resumes into currently-utilized software programs;
- Conduct and/or arrange mock interviews;
- Provide coaching on networking interviewing job search strategies employer research and employment/salary negotiations;
- Maintain accurate advising records on each student counseled utilizing current database software;
- Expand awareness of services provided by the unit to improve relationships between the career center and other university offices/departments;
- Employ new technologies and strategies whenever possible to improve unit effectiveness efficiency and services to customers;
- Research prepare and present professional development programs on current workforce trends;
- Actively participate in new student orientation freshman student classes and other joint programs;
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
ADDITIONAL DUTIES:- Assist with and coordinate events and workshops provided by the unit including career fairs classroom presentations and other related events/activities;
- Design appropriate advertisements/announcements for programs and events;
- Participate in regional and national professional organizations and conferences related to the mission and services of the unit;
- Identify review evaluate and recommend both print and web-based career resources and contribute to the units web presence when appropriate;
- Assist with the evaluation and assessment of programs and services;
- Serve on university committees as requested;
- Additional duties for Career Consultant:Provide training and mentorship for new staff and student employees responsible for identifying an area for enhancing career services (e.g. integration of new technologies) and develop/maintain a plan for continuous improvement in that area.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelors degree is required;
- Masters degree or two years related experience in higher education required for placement in Career Consultant position;
- One to two years of related experience preferred.

- Demonstrated ability to establish and develop productive and collegial relationships;
- Ability to collaborate and communicate effectively with on campus constituencies;
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively both in writing and verbally;
- Ability to collect compile analyze and evaluate information and make verbal or written presentations based on this information;
- General computer literacy and ability to use Microsoft Office (Microsoft 365) applications and other technologies;
- Ability to interact effectively with a varied array of students faculty staff administrators and the public.
