Position at Bangkok International Preparatory and Secondary School

Purpose:

The Pre Nursery Lead Teacher will work in partnership with our whole pre Nursery Leadership team and relevant Whole School Leaders to lead and manage the day-to-day operations of the pre nursery part of our school ensuring the highest standards of teaching care and safety. The role combines hands-on teaching responsibilities with leadership in planning supervising and improving educational practices. They will ensure that all children receive outstanding care and early learning opportunities in a nurturing stimulating and safe learning environment for children aged 2-3.

Responsibilities:

The Pre Nursery Lead Teacher is responsible to the Assistant Head of Early Pathways for:

  • Leading managing and supporting the pre nursery teaching team fostering a collaborative environment in conjunction with our Head of TAs.

  • Leading and supporting the implementation of a robust and age-appropriate pre-nursery curriculum that meets childrens developmental needs and interests in conjunction with our Assistant Head of Curriculum.

  • Ensuring the highest standards of care and education and facilitating up to date best practices in conjunction with our Assistant Head of Teaching and Learning.

  • Creating a welcoming nurturing environment that supports the emotional and physical wellbeing of very young children in conjunction with our Assistant Head of Wellbeing.

  • Providing a safe environment taking appropriate measures to protect children from harm in line with the schools Health and Safety and safeguarding policy in conjunction with our Assistant Head of Wellbeing and Executive Head.

Leadership and Management:

  • Manage daily pre-nursery activities and lead the teaching team to ensure the highest standards of care and education.

  • Ensure and monitor effective communication among staff and between staff and parents.

  • Ensure that support staff are utilised effectively and in the best interests of the children.

Main tasks: TEACHING LEARNING AND THE CURRICULUM

TEACHING

In accordance with school policies and under the direction of the Assistant Head of Early Pathways and Assistant Head of Teaching and Learning and Assistant Head of Curriculum the Pre Nursery Lead Teacher will:

  • Plan prepare and deliver high quality sessions and complete all required planning documentation in collaboration with their team.

  • Plan and deliver developmentally appropriate activities that cater to the individual needs of each child focusing on early milestones such as motor skills sensory engagement and social interaction.

  • Teach with consistent effectiveness the students in her/his classes taking full account of all students individual educational needs (LS EAL HEAL and emotional and social needs)

  • Use observation-based assessments to monitor each childs growth in key developmental areas: physical social emotional and cognitive.

  • Incorporate early language development activities such as storytelling role play and conversation ensuring these support each childs stage of development.

  • Create a safe and stimulating learning environment including both indoor and outdoor activities.

  • Maintain a focus on emotional security and attachment recognising the importance of creating trusting relationships with the children.

  • Support children in developing social skills such as sharing turn-taking and understanding boundaries.

  • Fostering early communication language and pre-literacy skills through stories songs and interactive play.

  • Encouraging independence in daily routines such as feeding dressing toileting and self-care.

  • Make full use of resources and learning technologies to enhance the quality of teaching and learning for children of all ages and attainment levels in their care.

ASSESSMENT RECORDING AND REPORTING

In accordance with school policies and under the direction of the Assistant Head of Early Pathways and Assistant Head of Assessment the Pre Nursery Lead Teacher will:

  • Assess record and report on the development progress and attainment of the students in her/his classes in line with school policy.

  • Provide or contribute to oral and written assessments reports and references relating to individual students or groups of students including parent consultations and formal written reports.

  • Communicate regularly with parents to provide updates on childrens development and well-being building strong relationships with families.

  • Monitor the developmental progress of each child identifying any additional support needs early on and working with specialists such as speech therapists or learning support staff if necessary.

  • Make records of and reports on the personal and social needs of students.

  • Adapt assessment recording and reporting in line with the WSDP.

PROFESSIONAL REVIEW/PERFORMANCE MANAGEMENT

In accordance with school policies and under the direction of the Assistant Head of Early Pathways and Assistant Head of Teaching and Learning the Pre Nursery Lead Teacher will:

  • Regularly reflect on teaching practices and seek opportunities for further training in early years pedagogy.

  • Participate in arrangements for the review of her/his own professional performance.

  • Maintain excellent professional relationships with colleagues by making a wider professional contribution to the continuing improvement of the school.

  • Actively engage in continued professional development

FURTHER TRAINING AND DEVELOPMENT

In accordance with school policies and under the direction of the Assistant Head of Early Pathways and Assistant Head of Teaching and Learning the Pre Nursery Lead Teacher will:

  • Stay up-to-date and engage with relevant communities of practice in order to remain up-to-date with current professional developments and the latest research and best practices in early childhood education.

  • Keep under review her/his methods of teaching and programmes of work.

  • Participate in arrangements for her/his further training and professional development as a teacher.

  • Attend and contribute to relevant staff meetings in order to continue to develop skills further.

CURRICULUM DEVELOPMENT

In accordance with school policies and under the direction of the Assistant Head of Early Pathways and Assistant Head of Curriculum and Assistant Head of Assessment the Pre Nursery Lead Teacher will:

  • Advise on the preparation and development of planning documentation methods of teaching and assessment and pastoral arrangements.

  • Support the development of the curriculum in line with the WSIP and middle leader action plans each year.

DISCIPLINE HEALTH AND SAFETY

  • Maintain positive behaviour among students and safeguard their health and safety both when they are authorised to be on the school premises and when they are engaged in authorised school activities elsewhere.

  • Learn and follow the schools procedures for health and safety including accident and incident reporting and emergency response procedures including dynamic lockdown and emergency evacuation procedures.

STAFF MEETINGS

  • Participate in meetings which relate to curriculum matters or the administration or organisation of the school including pastoral elements.

COMMUNICATION

  • Communicate and consult with the parents of her/his students or others who have a legitimate interest in the students in her/his classes.

  • Communicate and cooperate with persons or bodies outside the school as required.

  • Participate in meetings arranged for any of the purposes described above.

  • Contribute to whole school publications in order to communicate clearly with parents (e.g Weekly Blog Weekly Roundup social media Constant and True etc)

  • Contribute to external publications to promote the Pre Nursery (e.g Bambi)

  • Promote interculturalism and recognise and reward globally minded communication thought and behaviours

MANAGEMENT AND ADMINISTRATION

  • Participate in administration and organisational tasks related to such duties as are described above.

  • Register the attendance of students and supervise students whether these duties are to be performed before during or after school sessions.

  • Take such part as may be required in the review development and management of activities relating to the curriculum organisation and pastoral functions of the school.

COVER

  • Supervise and so far as is reasonable and practicable teach any students whose teacher is not available to teach them.

  • In absence provide detailed planning and resources for staff who are covering duties

ADMINISTRATION

  • Participate in administrative and organisational tasks related to the duties described above including registering attendance of students contributing to paper work and evidence for accreditations.

  • Manage or supervise anyone providing support for her/his class(es).

  • Order and monitor the use of resources.

GENERAL PROFESSIONAL DUTIES

  • Carry out particular professional duties as may reasonably be assigned by the leadership team.

  • Contribute positively to the overall life of the school.

  • Contribute to and attend assemblies as and if needed

  • Take a full and active role in assigned duties at break lunch before or after school.

PASTORAL DUTIES

Act as a Class Teacher and in this capacity be the key member of staff for the provision of pastoral support for each and every member of the class including such functions as:

  • Carrying out daily administration tasks.

  • Monitoring of individual students progress and well-being.

  • Providing students with day-to-day support and guidance as necessary.

  • Holding regular one-to-one discussions with members of the class including academic mentoring.

  • Discussing students needs and progress with the Assistant Head of Early Pathways Assistant Head of Assessment and other key staff.

  • Attend and support school events as an active member of the pastoral staff team.

EXTRA-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES
Plan and deliver an after school programme of enrichment activities deriving from the taught curriculum and/or from other interests and needs of the students under the direction of the Head of Primary and Head of Services once a week for 1 hour.

The teaching load of a Pre Nursery Lead Teacher at Bangkok Prep is 80% of a full timetable.

  • Lead and present workshops to parents to develop greater understanding of our curriculum and provide strategies to support our children through home learning (where and if relevant);

  • Maintain the highest level of child retention and participation;

  • Ensure that the department maintains a high profile within the school;

  • Ensure that the department is physically well presented;

  • Establish encourage and maintain strong curriculum links with local regional and international organisations;

  • Liaise and communicate with parents effectively;

  • Promote teaching/learning links with other schools;

  • Maintain and further develop an effective VLE (Firefly) page;

  • Maintain a full application of the principles laid down in school policy documentation - e.g. Code of Conduct Dress Code Staff Handbook etc.

  • Contribute to and participate in whole school events.

  • Attend school residentials or trips and maintain high standards when attending these.
