OVERVIEW
Mission and Scope
The purpose of this position is to facilitate maintain and enhance the experience of USSRC guests and employees by ensuring the effective safe and efficient operation of USSRC electronic electro-mechanical and computer driven exhibits and simulators. Technical staff responsibilities also include providing exhibit related development &conducting preventative maintenance as well as providing simulations technical support requests. Critical thinking skills are a must.
What we do:
Provide support to the Museum Team by maintaining equipment such as simulators interactives & exhibits.
Develop concepts and ideas to design fabricate build and implement new items relating to simulations and exhibits.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Essential Functions
- Systematically develop design inspect install and repair USSRC equipment and simulators to maintain effective and efficient operation safety and appearance. Equipment includes but is not limited to:
- Electronic
- Hydraulic
- Electro-mechanical
- Pneumatic
- Audio / Visual
- Computer Peripherals
- Computer Hardware & Software
- CAD design (Fusion 360)
- FDM 3D Printing
- Resin 3D printing
- CNC Laser Cutting/Engraving
- CNC Router Table
- Vacuum forming
- Develop modify and re-design & update technological simulators and circuitry including computer software mechanical systems PCB design and testing ensuring effective and efficient operation safety and that modifications meet the needs of the USSRC.
- Troubleshoot and maintain small networks related to simulators and interactives ensuring effective and efficient operation and safety.
- Ensure the accurate and timely completion of exhibit technical requests.
- Meet or exceed the expectations of the Museum Technician Manager for the installation maintenance and repair of simulators and exhibits.
- Meet or exceed the expectations of the Museum Technician Manager for the accurate and timely completion of related tasks and assignments.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Level of Supervision: None
Travel Required: Some
QUALIFICATIONS
Required Education
- High school or GED and completion of 2-year technical degree (work experience will also be considered and applied to education requirements).
Required Experience
- Work Experience: 12 24 months experience as a Tech 1 in designing maintaining and repairing electronic and Electro-mechanical devices or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Must have the ability to use the tools equipment and materials of the profession effectively and safely.
- Must have knowledge of computer hardware (i.e. motherboards hard drives memory etc.) and how to install troubleshoot repair replace basic computer components.
- Knowledge of computer systems basic networking programming specific to Ladder Logic for PLCs Arduino programming and Raspberry Pi is a plus.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS
Physical Requirements
- Walking climbing to access simulators maintenance shop and other buildings.
- Pushing carrying and lifting equipment up to 100lbs waist high (ex: Moonshot test weights are 100lbs each).
- Bending kneeling crawling under contorting and reaching to repair various equipment pertaining to the Museum simulations/exhibits scope
- Sight reading wrist movements tactile feeling to inspect and repair simulators/exhibits
- Knowledge and proper use of tools
- Talking hearing to communicate with employees contractors regarding exhibits
- Driving skills to operate company vehicles and manlifts forklifts & telehandlers
- Comfortable working in heights (up to 380)

- Thursday through Sunday 7am 5:30pm could vary dependent on the support needs of the department.
