JOB TITLE: External Partnerships Officer

TYPE OF CONTRACT: Short Term Professional P1

UNIT/DIVISION: MPC

DUTY STATION (City Country): Rome Italy

DURATION: 11 months

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE OF THE ASSIGNMENT:
The Multilateral and Programme Country Partnerships Division (MPC) supports fostering partnerships with national governments and development actors to strategically position WFP within the development sphere and mobilize new resources to achieve zero hunger and advance other related development priorities. Within this vision the CFS is of critical strategic importance and requires dedicated human resources to promote and safeguard WFPs interests.

The staff member will work under the direct supervision of the Senior Strategic Partnerships Officer and the overall supervision of the Director. The P1 Short-Term Professional Officer will be responsible for the following duties:

ACCOUNTABILITIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

working level meetings at the CFS to monitor discussions and help shape WFPs position on strategic issues by liaising with CFS Secretariat relevant WFP divisions and offices to ensure that WFP will be appropriately represented in CFS meetings.

2. Draft briefing documents talking points notes for the records inputs to documents and correspondence for CFS meetings.

DELIVERABLES AT THE END OF THE CONTRACT:

  • Effective contribution to CFS process including meetings attended briefs prepared for WFP senior management etc.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

Education: Advanced University degree or University degree with advanced training/courses in one
or more of the following disciplines: political science international development development economics international relations communications or other related fields.

Experience:Minimum of two years of progressively responsible experience with external relations and Partnerships in general.

  • Prior partnerships work in Food security/similar consultancy is an asset.

Knowledge & Skills

Knowledge: Drafting skills as an important skill of the job requirement.

Ability in both written and verbal English. Proficiency in word processing Excel spreadsheets usage and other standard WFP software packages and systems. Specific knowledge of FAO and/or IFAD structures and governance. General knowledge of UN system policies rules regulations and procedures governing administration. Solid knowledge of the Committee on World Food Security and its constituency would be a strong asset.

Desirable skills: Strong writing skills. Coordination diplomatic and advocacy skills in inter-governmental /inter-agency processes/fora.

Languages: English
